My Windows 8 Upgrade Experience

So I decided to take the plunge yesterday , and upgrade to W8 pro.
Personally I was regretting to upgrade and probably wouldn't have, if it wasn't because my c: drive was almost maxed out with only 3 gigs left. So I was left with either reinstalling everything  from scratch or try the upgrade process and there was no way I wanted to reinstalled and track down all my serial numbers ..
So I did a clone of my c:drive using Arconis true Image to another newly formatted drive, I ran into a few snags just because my windows 7 Os had a corrupt MBR, So I had to do some rebuilding and repairs with the windows 7 disc , But as soon as my cloned drive loaded up with windows 7 , I proceeded with the upgrade to windows 8 using a USB flash drive that I saved it to when I bought the  windows 8 upgrade.
The whole process took about 30 to 40 mins, with it loading all my apps and settings as it was prior. My audio drive which is the Roland quad Capture needed to uninstalled and reinstalled with the new 1.5 installer, That worked flawlessly , and surprisingly my TASCAM FW 1884 loaded up just as before in windows 7 , I did nothing but turn it on and it recognized the driver, Although I only use it as a control surface which works perfect exactly as it has in windows 7...
So to sum it up the installation went pretty awesome in eyes, Everything seems to be working perfectly.
One thing I did do was unplug all usb devices prior to upgrading accept for my mouse and keyboard. And I plugged 1 in at a time when the upgrade was complete . One other thing Acronis true image is invaluable .

Your post is very timely. I've been wondering whether to upgrade to Windows 8.

Have you noticed any performance improvement or degradation with Windows 8? Or is it pretty much the same?

I've upgraded to windows 8.  I can't see any real benefits in terms of performance, BUT, in the light of recent threads, I am having NO problems with X2a to mention.

That said I wasn't really with x1 expanded on windows 7.

I do however like windows 8 as an operating system. It's different on the surface, but I do like.

To be honest Windows 8 seems to be snappier, I came from a 60 gig ssd with Windows 7 to a 500 gig 7200 segate hd with windows 8 ,I dont really see a huge in difference . but I will eventually clone it to a large SSD in time,  but the 7200hd seems more than adequate.

As far as degradation none at all over here.. :)

If I had to say its pretty much the same but I'm no expert ,Im sure there's under the table performance Im really not seeing or noticing. But then again Im only 2 days with W8. And I do see everything running slightly snappier as I mentioned.

I figured its best to keep everything upgraded / New technology .  Plus this install was simple and painless especially having that peace of mind that if this didn't work correct I have my original HD and all I would have to do it plug it back in as it was before.
     Hope this helps you out..

It seems a tad more stable to me, but I haven't been running hardcore since I upgraded. There's a few more mouse clicks when performing mundane tasks, and the metro modern thingy have no value at all to me other than being a glorified start menu. But it was cheap. When the apps are open , no real difference except that charms thing that keep popping up. That may get annoying some day.

Besides that, some cool new functions in Win8 and I don't regret a thing. But I won't go touch yet.

When it actually works, yes!  But I don'[t trust it because I've had it fail to restore files several times.
