I was just wondering about you the other day.  So, you're back at work, eh?  Great!  Kinda tough on music production, though, isn't it?  :-(

Anyway, I really really like this and you've done a great job with it, IMO.  Looks like being away didn't diminish your skills at all.  The piano sounds real good too. :-)

    And welcome back!

    On my studio cans ...

Oops, I shouldn't comment on this as this is a 'cover' song ... an extremely sensitive issue for me these days:  (http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2047165)

(Alkie, I've concluded you/I really must publicly perform "covers" for God and copyright lawyers.  I just did a 'non-licensed cover' and currently will not post it for legal and conscious sake.  I strongly suggest you and I avoid doing public 'covers' in the future.  Of course most artists will disagree.  I've hypothesize numerous ways to get around 'cover' issues: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2047165)

    But I listened anyway.

I actually prefer your voice to the original to be honest as I always felt he sounded a bit whiney and pathetic on this track, which has always spoiled it for me. (I usually shout bad words at the radio when he sings the "nobody said it was easy ..." section !)  Not overly convinced by the mix on this one though. The reverb on the vox and drums seems overly heavy and the mix in general a bit thin and needs more bottom end, separation and warmth for me.  Just reading this back it sounds a bit negative - not my intention - it's a good version, but would benefit from a few tweaks IMO. As ever just my opinon as a listener, don't claim to be any kind of expert.

Thanks for listening anyway Philip. Well if i stopped doing covers i`d be doing nothing, i don`t bother with copyrights and horsepucky like that..I`m not trying to sell these tunes just post them...heck there are thousands of covers on SC and millions of bands playing live doing covers and they get paid but i don`t think they send anything to the bands they cover.

Thanks Paulo, no worries i take everything as constructive not negative, confused by the more bottom end though...on my three systems there`s tons and in the car with the sub it`s a boomin. I guess it just translates differently everywhere though.

Nice job.  Heartfelt vocal performance.  I like the strings.  Nice arrangement - it really draws you in.  The drums are very interesting - unique sounding snare.

Thanks very much Gino, the strings were done with the Miroslav Philharmonic C.E. it was the Ethereal Orchestra. Drums are Addictive Drums Pearl Thick....i used some flange modulation on the snare and about 10 different reverbs till i liked it.

    Hey Alkie,

    Nice to have you back.

Well, for starters, you got my wife's attention as she was passing by my listening room. She's a big Coldplay fan and knows this piece inside out. She's impressed and so am I. You did a great job with the production overall, mix sounds great through the speakers. I only have one very minor nit. The vocals are very wet, and a tad more dryness around the ears might be in order, as always IMHO.

Bravo Alkie, your return to work has certainly not diminish your great potential. And congratulations on living the dream.

great job Al. this song always reminds me of Robbie Williams at the start. your singing is great, a bit too much ssssssssssssssibilance though, dunno if you have a deesser on this. arrangement is cool too. too much bass on the kick drums though!

Memorare debut album 'Philistine' available now http://blackwoodproductio...philistine-digipack-cd

Thanks mark...Well i used a deesser but i think since i went for a really wet vocal with over 10 different reverbs on them that getting rid of the sibilance was almost impossible. As for the Kick i put heavy low end and Maxx Bass on it for my car since i have a SUB in my car and it sounds fargin amazing in there. I wish we could just make one mix and it would translate the same on all stereo`s but that`s just not the case.

    Thanks again for your input.
