One of my favourites in "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" particularly from Season 2 when Danny DeVito joined the cast. Although a cartoon not a sitcom, give "Rik and Morty" a spin. Both are on Netflix from memory although Rik and Morty may only be available on Netflix UK

Always Loved the IT Crowd. Anyone who has ever done support can see some real truth in this (Have you tried turning off and on again?) Another of my favorites was Coupling (The British version not the terrible US remake). The guy that played "Jeff" (Richard Coyle) was comedic gold. Warning though: This may seem sexually explicit to US viewers.

It's Always Sunny is definitely in my top 10 all time favorite shows. It's hysterical. Danny DeVito must be one of the funniest people on the planet and I think that show has been the best vehicle for him, even better than Taxi. The writing is superb and all cast members are amazing. Gonna be very offensive to some people though.

The IT Crowd was great. I loved the painfully realistic depictions of the lives of IT trolls lurking in their subterranean lairs. This is a world that is immediately recognizable to me.

sharke I'm Alan Partridge was superb, another of my favorites. Steve Coogan at his very best. I think it helps to be British to appreciate Partridge because a lot of what makes him funny is his references to the dull, humdrum side of UK life. For instance, references to eating scotch eggs from filling stations etc. I love the shot in one episode of him walking alongside the dual carriageway to get to the filling station, it really echoed with me and all the times I've found myself in similarly dull & bleak situations. I thought the scenario of him living in the motel was great - there's a scene where he calls reception and says "Hi Susan. I was a bit bored so I dismantled my Corby Trouser Press. I can't put it back together again. Will that show up on my bill" - classic Partridge.
Doesn't help me. That guy is about as funny as being repeatedly kicked in the bollocks by a man with concrete wellies IMO. Give me Modern Family or Two and a half men (with Charlie in it) any time instead of that.

Moshkito Hi, Not exactly a sitcom watcher, but if I have to choose one, I would say that "Fawlty Towers" was the one I liked the most.
So would I. Though I suspect it means something different to British people around my age, who can remember the kind of characters it portrays being around, than to a younger audience. Nowadays it sometimes gets accused of being racist, especially the character of The Major, but back when it was made that kind of casual, automatic racism was very common as was the class snobbery of e.g. Sybil Fawlty. Cleese and Booth weren't exactly popular in some quarters when they ridiculed either. The same sort of thing applies to the Monty Python stuff. A lot of it only makes sense (to the extent any of it makes sense) if you're aware of the prejudices of the British middle-classes and the kind of regime found in English Public Schools (which means private and very expensive schools like Eton) in the 50s and 60s and some of the stuffier Oxford/Cambridge university colleges around the same time. Edited to add - for a radio sitcom, try the BBC's "Cabin Pressure". Benedict Cumberbatch before he was famous, and very well written and acted. Parts of it compete with PG Wodehouse, which is high praise coming from me.

bitflipper I've watched the entire series four times through, and probably will again. Just discovered the episodes are on YouTube, for those few still without Netflix.
I never heard of it but I don't watch much TV. I just checked online with my local library and they have the complete 1st,2nd,3rd, and 4th seasons on DVD. I just ordered the complete 1st season. Thanks for posting, can't wait to check it out.

Lucky Louie is worth a watch, Louis C.K.'s ill fated sitcom from 2006 which ran for one season on HBO before being taken canceled because some prudish killjoys complained or something.
It's a lot different from his later show which is darker in tone (and no laugh track), but Lucky Louie was a really well written and acted offering with some great moments. His friends are hilarious.
His later show Louie was superb as well. More of a drama comedy than a sitcom, it was beautifully written, performed and produced with amazing acting and excellent photography. One of those shows which makes me glad to live in NYC.

sharke It's Always Sunny is definitely in my top 10 all time favorite shows. It's hysterical. Danny DeVito must be one of the funniest people on the planet and I think that show has been the best vehicle for him, even better than Taxi. The writing is superb and all cast members are amazing. Gonna be very offensive to some people though.
I have a pretty thick skin and am not easily off-put by extreme humor, but Always Sunny offended me to the point I had to completely stopped watching. There was an episode about a car accident in which a disabled person was injured - played for laughs (or some sort of distasteful plot line - don't recall the details). Never went back. I do like Mr. DeVito, though. Ruthless People is one of my all-time favorite comedy movies.

I think you're probably thinking of the one in which Dennis reversed into Charlie and he was in a wheelchair for the rest of the episode. Was very funny.

I watched about 4 seasons of it on Sharke's recommendation, really funny stuff, I enjoyed it. Then, they did some holocaust jokes and that was the end of it. That's transgressing the unwritten law for me.

Perhaps a bit of an acquired taste, but check out "Legit". It's on Netflix. Basically consists of re-enactments of Jim Jefferies' stand-up routines. If you like warped but strangely heart-warming humor, with story lines that include taking your disabled pal to a cathouse, you will ache with laughter. Warning: drug use, coarse language, glorification of total losers and liberal propaganda.
