This is a pretty good idea.  Couple of things:
lose some of the body of the voice..do a high pass filter up to about 250hz
add a slap back reverb and pan it right, then send some of that piano over there

I've just listened twice because I like this song, and I wanted to respond to what has already been said.  I don't think this needs much treatment at all.  It's a simple song with a simple arrangement, so don't go overboard trying to fix it.  The vocal is lovely, and I quite like the tone of the voice.  A few words are hard to understand, but a volume envelope would help bring those words out.  The reverb is light, and quite appropriate.

One trick that may help in the future for the vocal's intelligibility, would be to run the vocal through a compressor with light settings as you're going into the computer.  This is an age old engineering trick, and it requires a very light touch, but it lessens the burden on the singer.  It does require a fairly decent hardware compressor, though.  Many will disagree with me, but this has been a tried and true practice nearly since Edison's days.  Regardless, this is a lovely tune, and you'd have to work to screw this up.

nice job.... the girl can sing and has a nice voice. 

I had a bit of difficulty with understanding the words as well....  I don't listen on cans on this computer so panning issues are hard to hear. but.... since it was mentioned above.... with this simple arrangement.... vox down the center.... I might record 2 unison tracks on the vocals and pan them R/L at 60% but low in the mix... really low... they will add almost a subliminal stereo field to the voice. I use this on some, but not all vocal tracks and the 2 side tracks are so low they are almost not there. 

I listened on my lappy with cans... really nice.

If you are going to put the piano on the left like that, you have to have something on the right to balance it. The ears can stand the panning but not as easily when there is total silence or a lack of balance in the other side of the mix.  Throw a guitar or even a string pad in there and you solve that issue.

I thought the bass and drums were a bit loud for the mix. I was distracted by how loud they were as they overpowered the vocalist. 

Great song.... great performance, the mix is in need of a few minor tweezes.  

Oh yeah..... edit to one more thing.... I would throw just the slightest hint of some dark plate verb on that girl. Just a tiny bit. 

The vox is kind of boxy and maybe a bit distorted (but I've been mixing for what seems likes 3 days straight so I could be wrong).

I like the song a lot, she has a nice voice. Mix needs some tweaking for me - it leans a bit left and the vox are a little buried in places making it a harder listen than it should be. I would either send some of the piano to the right or put something else in there to balance it up a bit. This is a good start though, she has a nice voice and I'm sure confidence will come with practice.

Seeing as you're a first time poster I will add my usual disclaimer that anything I say is just how I hear it and I don't claim to be any kind of expert - still trying to figure all this stuff out myself !

I don't know if this has had anything done to it since you posted it (changes)

Try using the VX-64 Vocal Strip's De-esser if you don't have just a stand alone De-esser for the 
"ess's" - It can be quite the useful tool if you don't have "others" ...

I think it's a very good song!

I like it.
Follow through on the suggestions, particularly panning.
With a few minor tweaks, this has the potential to be a really great track.
Your vocalist has nothing to be nervous about. Her delivery fits the mood of the piece.
Work this, and keep us posted.
I think this one can polish up really nicely.
