"My little black book"....

I guess I never knew what that meant.

I have one now. It's my big, little black book. Well, it's just 3x5 cards but
there are a lot of cards.
I'm at work and what brought it up is now I'm needing one for here.
It is out of hand. I have to have passwords now for almost everything
I do in life.
The problem at work is that they expire and then you have to create new ones.
They can't be simple either.
All because........well I have no idea why. I guess they think somebody is going to get on
my PC and do my job. Well they couldn't even do that...they'd have to log-in with their
name..and the security limits use big time...so I have no idea why.
Just some more crazy ****.

Guess I'll go log-in and punch my timecard back in from lunch....pfftt.

I decided to search and I'll be dogged...it means- a list of people one is out of favor with.
Guess I always handled that a little differently LOL.

Yikes. I just went through this nightmare when I did the clean install of Win8 Pro on my new hard drive. Rounding up all of the usernames, passwords, serial numbers, and reg keys was more time consuming than actually reinstalling the programs.

I now have a little "black book" as well.

I've dealt with those situations by having a complex "base" (starting with some word than substituting certain letters with special characters, numbers and capitals - for example, you could use "pumpkins" and turn it into "Pumpk1n$"), then I add a numerical incrementor.  Sure, if someone figures out the password, then they could guess at the next one (e.g., "Pumpk1n$03" to "Pumpk1n$04"), but all I need to do is remember the base.  You can also use the same base for passwords that don't allow special characters ("Pumpk1ns") or passwords that don't require capital letters ("pumpk1ns").

The key is to create a base word that has NOTHING to do with your life.  A made up word is probably best.  This way you only need to remember your base word and how you mangled it for a specific use.  If you stay consistent, then it should take only a maximum of three guesses for YOU to figure out the correct password.

If you want to be really tricky, create multiple bases and rotate them.   I will NEVER use one of those random generated passwords because you are pretty much required to write it down somewhere.

I do just that now Craig and have for a long time. The problem is that now it's
    grown into a moan.
I apply rotation to a base and that helps for the ones on a time cycle. (same char/numbers but rotating)
