My master bus is missing on old projects.

Hey all, opening old projects my master bus that I had included on every track on my old album does not show up when I open it in Platinum ver 22:10

Can you see the image below?  Where the insert bus text is, is where my master bus used to be.  I've looked to see if it's hidden in a dropdown menu or option thats hiding it but I'm stumped.  Anyone else seen this?

I won't worry about it, These things happen. I have the oposite problem where I'll open an older project and have 2 Master busses,  metronome and a headphone buss that were certainly not there before.

Just add the buss, name it and set as default. To send all the tracks to the MAster- use SELCT ALL then  go up to "tracks" ( the one above the" Add tracks" icon ) and choose
selected tracks output/ Audio outputs/ master"
this is quicker than changing each track.

Can't say I have seen SONAR lose a track or bus. It is easy to add a Master Bus to a project.
  • Create a bus and rename it Master.
  • Right-click on the bus and enable "Set as Default Bus"
  • Select all the audio/instrument tracks then while holding down the CTRL button change their outputs to the bus.
May want to make sure you project templates have a master bus too.

Thanks. It’s frustrating because I had about 3 or 4 plug-ins on that bus. I can’t remember which ones/settings etc.

Yep. Speaking of templates, when I go to the home loading page there is nothing in the templates page. Sonar used to have suggestions in there. Are they supposed to be there? For midi sessions, rock etc.

It may help to clarify what you mean by old projects ...

What version of SONAR were you using ? before ...after ...

The bulk of my older SONAR projects were done in SONAR 6 PE ... a 1010lt was my sound card on that computer at the time .( not even sure if that matters ) I'm using a 2i4 these days ...

When I open these projects in SPlat , my Splat project will  exhibit the same behavior as what the OP has mentioned .
No master buss ..

My way of dealing with it was to " just man up and deal w it "

all the best ,

I think your on to it Kenny. I just tried this and opened an old project I know I haven't opened in SPLAT and sure enough, no master buss. And holy cow, lots of orphaned plug ins. I noticed he list of orphans included things I would have only used on the Master buss. so you can always take a screen shot of the list.

I have no problem with these things as I would never use what ever I used back then anyways.
I learn how to use better tools almost weekly and first thing I do when I open old projects is delete all the effects I used and insert new improved plugs. Same with most of the VST's. So as long as my midi and audio is there I'm more than happy to re work old projects and they will always be improved in this process. It's the part of this Hobby I enjoy the most.

As been said a million time here. If you really are needing to re visit old projects you have 2 choices.
1. Maintain a system and version they were created on.
2. Produce back up copies that are future proof. This includes freezing synths to audio. Making notes about settings for plugs and VST's, saving the project as a midi 1 file and making sure everything is saved to a folder.

Great Post Cactus Music
When you opened up the older project , did you notice the Pro Chanel is not usually populated w the typical Pro Chanel effects on some or many of the audio  tracks ?
I have noticed when I add tracks to the newer version of the project the new tracks will have the Pro Chanel populated ..

I have not 100% figured out how pro channel works yet. It's actually new to me..
Funny story is that it was one of those new features I just never got around to figuring out. I didn't even know that there was a tab for it at the top of the track strip ! ;0     I hit it by accident about a month ago looking for a way to get rid of those pesky info boxes which hide the top of the strip. First reaction was , wow look at all that stuff I didn't even know existed other than than the EQ.
So there you go, now I'm a Pro Channel fiend.
But the one thing I would like to figure out is other than track templates, there seems to be a default that is overloaded with plug ins I would never use. This is fine, but it takes up time deleting everything. I tried the set modules as default but I guess that only applies to new tracks.
