My old home town screws the pooch BIG TIME! (No offense to Beagle in ten did!)
Since all private fireworks are illegal in California, people must go to "official" displays. Well, all of the major fireworks displays must work from the same place (or at least four of the major ones) and SOMEONE accidentally pushed the wrong button causing ALL OF THEM to go off ALL AT ONCE!!! One video Second video Third video Wow! What a screw up!!! Four displays all at once, I wonder how much THAT costs!

Whoa. We we're invited to a friends house, and would have seen that very show from her house.... I'm so glad I didn't go all the way down there!

One show would make the news, but FOUR big ones? Shelter Island, Downtown, Harbor Island and Coronado! Quite a bit of distance between some of those shows and they ALL work on the same switch??? Wow...

If you experience fireworks last more than four hours, call the fire department.

The Union Trib has compiled a list of twitter mentions that vary from "I'm so mad" to "best nine seconds of my life". Then there was the guy who heard the blast from his living room and noted that he "thought that TJ had been nuked." Apparently, the show was on barges, and they were testing the synch about five minutes before the show was scheduled. Oops. All the other tests had been fine.

So, when I got home I pushed the button to open my garage door and World War III broke out! Sorry, Dude.

Only if you've had a sex change Jan! (Not that it would really matter if you did of course.) My mom reports that the person responsible was female. (No confirmation regarding the detail that she said "What does this button on the remote do?" prior to the event.)

No sex change, Craig. I'm perfectly happy the way I am. I hadn't heard that they know who pushed the button. I was just toying with the idea that everything is likely to be radio controlled and that some glitch like that could have caused it.

Of course, many of those shows are controlled using MIDI - maybe they just upgraded to X1? Hmm...

craigb Of course, many of those shows are controlled using MIDI - maybe they just upgraded to X1? Hmm... That sounds logical. I think their mistake was using on-board sound.

Kinda reminds me of the scene in "The Patriot" where the general's ship arrives with his personal effects, and he steps outside for the garden party. Meanwhile the freedom fighters have boarded the ship and rigged it to explode. Just as he joins the party, the ship explodes in a huge fireball, and the clueless lady says... "Oh bravo!!!!!" as if it was some sort of fireworks display that was planned as part of the entertainment at the party..... I have to wonder............ who got fired for that mistake in San Diego?

Wow! I wonder if they hired this bod: From: 7/7/2011 "Sean Michael Ogden has severe burns and lost his teeth, but is in a stable condition in the Mercy Regional Medical Center," fire marshal Tom Kaufman told reporters in Durango, Colorado. "Frankly, it's a miracle that he's still alive. Fireworks can be lethal if you try to alter them, and it's extremely dangerous to attempt it unless you're properly trained. Mr Ogden had no training and no sense, and that's where the problem lay. "It seems that he purchased several dozen small fireworks from a shop in Durango Mall. But when he got them back to his home on the Animas View Drive trailer park, he decided they were too small. So he looked on the internet to see how smaller fireworks could be altered to make big ones, and decided to try it for himself. "For reasons that we still do not fully understand, he began by removing his shirt, and emptying the contents of several fireworks into an electric coffee grinder, presumably to mix them together. Then he switched the grinder on. The resulting explosion was so violent that it blew his teeth clean out, destroyed his trailer, shook the house of a woman living a quarter-mile away, damaged a telephone kiosk, and sent a plume of smoke so high into the air that it could be seen for miles. Local residents thought there had been a terrorist incident. "We assume that a spark from the electric grinder must have ignited the mixture, and are amazed that Mr Ogden could not foresee this."

This wouldn't even make the news if it happened in the South. Of course, they probably don't have electric coffee grinders either...
