My "Guitarist's Guide to Sonar" book is out!

If this is considered spam, please feel free to delete but I thought some of you guitar players might want to know about this book. There's an overview and listing of chapters for more information.

I'd be happy to answer any questions people might have about it, what it covers, etc.

It's kind of weird to have worked on projects for months or years and have them all hit at once, but at least they're finally hitting the world!

    Thanks Craig.

I speak for myself; your attention to SONAR is very much appreciated.

I hope you sell a truckload of these.

    very best regards,

Not spam at all as far as I am concerned. This is probably good information and much welcome. My only complaint is I am a keyboard player. We always lose out to the guitar guys ;-)

I copy/pasted the isbn # 9781435457683 into the Amazon advanced search and came up with: http://www.amazon.com/Guitarists-Guide-SONAR-Craig-Anderton/dp/1435457684/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1321302138&sr=1-1

I am confused because in the book description it says this:

As more and more guitarists begin to use amp simulation software, it becomes increasingly important for them to have a tool that will help them to get the most out of it. That tool has arrived in the form of THE GUITARIST'S GUIDE TO SONAR. Designed for guitarists of varying levels of experience with music software, this book hones in on Cakewalk SONAR products. Using straightforward, easy-to-follow tutorials, the book will instruct guitarists on how they can use DAWs like SONAR, both live and in the studio. Coverage includes discussions of Sonar LE, Sonar Studio Edition, Sonar Producer Edition, Sonar Home Studio 7, and Sonar Home Studio 7XL. The content is concise yet thorough, making this a valuable resource for any guitarist who wants to use SONAR to strengthen their sound and recordings.

However, on the link you posted it references X1 and Effects chains 2.0

Are there different books? If there are I want to be sure I get the most current edition at the best price, which is why I looked at Amazon... to see if it was cheaper there. Someone might be upset if they buy something after reading this thread only to find it out of date. Perhaps I am just confused... well, no doubt, I am confused.

Thanks Craig. I'll probably want this but I still want the latest edition at the best price.

Looks great Craig and just the thing to get a few guitar slingers I know to buy in to the DAW concept. Hard to get these guys to even use a stomp box.

Any idea of the book size? Strange question but the format of the Scott Garrigus X1 book is excellent for soft cover due to its size. It lays open and flat so you can read and use your hands at the same time.

I saw that, I put in my request but will likely go ahead and buy the softcover. I think it will probably be a very helpful book. Maybe someone will come out with a pamphlet (or flash cards) for drummers/pizza delivery people... .. hehe..

I still have Electronic Projects For Musicians sitting on my shelf! I used to read your Guitar Player columns religiously.  I remember building the Talk Box project as well as the Ring Modulator.  I've also been using Cakewalk products since the Guitar Studio days!  So, I'll certainly look into your book Craig! Big fan!

    Peace!

[sigh] The publisher sent out the wrong overview and chapter list copy, it was from when I first started working on the book. The various sites with the wrong info are supposedly being updated, but the link I posted has the correct info.

    Craig,

Is there anything in your book about applying the bundled Sonar effects to electric acoustics (e.g.,  Ovations) using direct input?
From what I have seen of Guitar Rig (the one that comes with X1 Producer), it seems to be more geared toward electric guitars.

    Thanks,
    Jonathan

Good luck with the new book, Craig. I've read a large percentage of the millions of words you've written over the years, going back to Polyphony 30 years ago. Always practical, concise and written from the musician's perspective, I'm sure this one will be a winner.

Thanks Craig... I had someone sell a phone number I used at an answering service in the early 1990s to someone and somehow it ended up on every website that tries to get you to advertise online with them, it even wound up in a couple of phonebooks. It caused me mega headaches trying to get it sorted out and with the phonebooks I had to wait a year... with people calling a disconected number, that I could not find out who owned... so I understand the [sigh]...

Thanks for the clarification. I will be sure I get the right one and maybe Amazon will get their head and arse sorted out.

Holly Molly :)  My master :)

I was growing up with old style hip-hop music  like PE, NWA, Run DMC and others :)

btw. what about shipment to Europe? How much will it cost?
    Do you plan PDF version?

I don't know the answer to those questions, it's the same model as the Advanced Workshop videos...I do the content, and then the distributor basically takes it from there. However, I do know the Course Technology is getting more into electronic versions of books, so it wouldn't surprise me if one came along at some point.

As to shipping to Europe, there's actually a Polish distributor:
