My take on it...
With all due respect to Mr. Markno999, and I do mean that? I Hold Mark "in the highest regard." He is someone who should be respected here... I am more toward the "loose cannon" Part of the spectrum? You trust me on this one (unless you know me? In which case you’re nodding your head pretty aggressively at this point…) So Mark gave me a chance to contribute on this project? (and hopefully future projects?) to which I am extremely grateful… He is VERY talented at the production and mixing aspects, and I give him the respect he is due. Very talented… So this is my mix? Of our poo? It’s a bit slower, and a bit lower… But again, it’s “my mix?” So what’s different? Well My mix is lower, and slower. My drums are his drums, “reimaged?” And again, I hold Mark in the highest regard WRT to his ability to copy shizzy… He is a master at it? My drums are here because, “I’m trying to suck less” at it than I have to date? So My drums have been edited quite a bit… I edited them to make the snare pop? And to make the drums “overall” sit well in the mix (my mix). Also, I processed Mark's guitars a bit, I slapped them with some fabfilter saturation? And I take his lead and make it "move..." It moves from left to right, in time w/the solo... And I hit you a bit more in the face w/my bass? ============================= Again, it's really a different take on our colab? And again, I take nothing at all away from Mark's posting... I hold him "in the highest regard..." (please don't hold that against him?)" I just want to represent, "my image" of what I think was/is a great colab. Please listen, and enjoy, at the top? Silver Blue and Gold... www.reverbnation.com/rockinrobby My differences are actualy "non-trivial..." I process the bass much differently, I process the vocals much differently, I process the guitars much differently. It's the same song? But really a different representation of if. Again, I take NOTHING from Mr. Markno999... I hold him and his talents in the highest regard, (really). This is just "my take?" which is different? Not better or worse? Just different.

My goal is that one day? One of my mix heros will say "that'll do pig... That'll do..." (from the movie Babe. It's a great movie? So I used to suck really bad at the mixing? And I think I'm getting better at it? One day.... "That'll do pig... That'll do..." It's my dream...

And Also, I would like to be as good at the mixing poo as Mark! :-) He's one of my hero's! Him, James Yoyo, Frank Tanton, and TIMAAAAAAAYYYYY! All of those bioches? All of them... They are my heros... And I did lots of "stuff..." To the original? W/limiting, compression, exciters? etc... I did lots? But we all do? Our mix it what makes our **** stand out... I'm not saing my take kicks ass over anyone else's? What I'm saying is, "your shizzy?" Your shizzy? Has to make YOU! "Stand out..." If You don't stand out? Well then... You are an "also ran..." And you will not be remembered in any way? YOU are an artist! I know I am an artist Biotch... I know that I fricken rule? You have to rule? You have to rule over whatever your domain is! OWN IT! RULE OVER IT!! Be masters of your own domain...

Yes... I like this much better at this pitch/speed... vox is natural Robby... Love this... I'm not crazy 'bout the drum programing (ride cymbal on the verses)... needs more of human feel (jmo)... expert bass sound & performance... well done Robby... I like Mark's version too, but I did notice the pitch/time stretch... lower&slowerisbetter

Well, I liked the first version better. Remember, I'm not the engineer on our tunes so I don't hear the technical stuff. Robby sounds good on both versions but there is something about Mark's version that hit me better. Now remember, Robby, I have said for years now that I usually like your voice better when it's mixed by someone else. No insult intended. I still believe your best vocal, at least my favorite, was on Frank's Missing Person. I listen to that to this day. Was it a big difference for me? no. Maybe a bit more high frequencies in Mark's. They are both solid. I liked the tempo more too on Mark's. Good job everyone.

Frank is right, the drums (overall IMO) could be better. This feels looser than the Markno999 version. But, we're all producers, roight?

hahahaha! We all enjoy our art... It is our art? It's our take on what we have done? We? As "humans..." What we have done? For the last 50,000 years... I am a strong beliver in what we've done? And what we do? What we've done, and what we do? Let's face it, an EMP could take out our socity tomorrow?? But what we do? What "WE" do... Will live on, as long as people live on... What We do? What we do... What we do is important people? It's important... What we do? What we do, is to capture people's thought's and feeling's... Do not underestimate your impact on culture, it is "non-trival..." ++++++++++++++++ I'm serious about this people... Think about a culture without electricity? Think about it... What would the value of music be? It would be strong... We are wizards? We are people who would be remembered... F'ing Tim? From Accrobats supper? I would remember that man... I would write about him... What we do is important? And it should be appreciated and remembered for what it is.

And again? markno999's skills and talents... They are non-trival... I have tremendous respect for Mark's talents regarding mixing and mastering? Something I am still trying to learn... But different people have different takes on the same thing? It doesn't mean it's right or wrong? It's just different...

It's funny, when you listen to something that people colaborate on? And you listen to version A, and then version B? It's interesting... Again, Mark it a very talentened engineer/producer? So My version is presented as "different?" And well, it's my take? I try to get better at presenting my poo? Still, it's my poo... My goal is to make it better.

Most collaborations, at least that I've been involved in, end at version A. Rarely do you hear version A then version B. The people I collaborate with all give their input and release a song when they think it's done. In my case I move on to writing another song to do a Version A of. These songs, if picked up by a producer or artist will all be done over by the big time studios. So, do I let a version A go through needing a tweek here and there. Yeah. Should I? I don't know.

I like this, Rob, but I like a lot of Mark's version better. Vocals sound great slowed down, but I think it sounded better sped up. Here is what bothers me: the ride is like RIGHT HERE, the toms are right next to them with little to no room feel, dampened beyond recognition, and then then the snare is recorded in an ampitheatre. Any of these approaches will work, but usually not together. And the highs of the kick is shaded right. Or is that a tom?

Hi, Robby, I hadn't heard either version until now, and my first and major impression is how good the vocals are. It's a great tune anyway, but the vocals just hit me right. Anything else about this production can be elastic as far as I'm concerned. Bravo!

well this was an interesting thread suffice to say ;p i like this version a lot. it might be my favorite of the two. maybe i need to listen back to back as i loved Mark's version as well; his mix had a more 'natural' feel, if that makes any sense. the only possible issue to me is the drums don't sound 'warm' enough. that being said, this is great. Love Bad Company so it's a thrill just to hear this tune done well. Kudos to you both.

Mark's version seemed to speed up in the chorus and your version seems more steady. Your version has more vocal presence. For the sound mix, I like Mark's version better.

I like slower versions of songs. I'd have to be on better speakers and compare them side by side..... This sounds good. Remember that the mix starts with the tracks so record good tracks and the mixing is easier.

I agree Herb. I just wrote a new one (a Country tune! :-) And I'm trying to start recording it, but work is really cutting in to my hobbies? It's starting to piss me off... I literally turned on the pre-amps yesterday afternoon, killed them late (because of work) and turned them on today? And then killed them late... Stupid work! Why can't people just pay for our houses/electricity/water/Internet/gas, etc... So we can pursue our hearts desire? I know you feel as I do on this issue, someone else should take responsibility for us? Now who wants to be responsible for me? Please take a number... Don't try to rush to the front of the line please? I'll review all of your applications and select the most qualified applicant! If Bill Gates would consider me, I would have the reassignment surgery? But I doubt he monitors this forum :-( I'm sorry, where were we? Oh yeah, get it right on the way in? To that point, again, did I mention I would have the reassignment surgery?
