I can only imagine the scene at my usual supermarket...

"Excuse me, do you have any spotted dick?"

Supermarket help: "Say WHAT???"

"I asked if you had any spotted dick here."

Supermarket help: "Hell no!  Are you some kind of smart-ass or something?"

"No, so I take it that you don't like spotted dick?"

Supermarket help: "Man, you are one sick puppy!"

"I guess it would be futile to ask if you like pork faggots then?"

Supermarket help: "Security!"

Who's on first?

FYI:  I just saw the SD on a shelf and picked it up.  The clerk may have noticed the name, but he didn't say anything about it.

Now if I can just remember where I saw the Mr. Brain's PFs.

What a coincidence... I was just thinking about spotted dick & faggots this morning..... is it acceptable for breakfast?

I'm wondering why you thought of them this morning?  Something in the shower remind you of them perhaps?

PWF, Beagle!

But Herb was not wearing pants in the shower!?!

SWF?

You are correct, Sir.  Wouldn't that be NWF?

Now, I'm not clear on this. Do you put the spotted dick in or on the pork faggots? Or do you just eat the pork faggots and have a little spotted dick on the side? It leads to the question, how can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat.

So far, Crg, it has been just the pudding.  Haven't found the pork, yet.

I did have some Becan, if that counts in this case.

If you can find it over there, this should be your next experiment with SD.

Not sure I can get the custard, but there is a store in Fargo (an hour south of GFK) that sells a number of UK products, including Devonshire Cream.  If I made a custard using the Devonshire Cream, would I have the same thing?

Glad I'm reading this thread after lunch, this could get really dangerous really fast....

I have a recipe for Spotted Dick

1) Purchase a can of Spotted Dick
2) Purchase a can of evaporated milk
3) Purchase powdered cinnamon
4) purchase fresh raisins

Slice a can of Spotted Dick into quarters

Mix 8 oz of evaporated milk and cinnamon in a sauce pan.  Heat over low flame.  Add raisins.

Allow to cool for 5 minutes

Pour over a sliced Spotted dick.

Immediately insert into garbage disposal and turn on high.,

Go to store and buy some ice cream.

No Mr. Brain's, yet, but I did see some Treacle along with the SD.  The market also had a few other items like UK Heinz speghetti, Mac & Cheese, and some  candy bars, like Yorkie and Aero.  I like the Aero.  Anyone familiar with the Yorkie?  What's it like?

It wasn't bad.  It's just that my taste buds are off because of a Rx I'm taking--so I can't be sure of what I'm tasting.  Most things--even desserts--have a garlic flavor to them.  Some days that's stronger than others.  I tried to choose a day that it wasn't so strong.

I also think I might like it, if it wasn't a typical canned item.  Now I'm curious to see what it would taste like from a pub or home made.  I think I'll wait until I'm off the Rx for that though.

I wish I had that kind of control.  Sometimes it does work and it has a good flavor.  Tonight, hi had some chicken with some General Tso's Stir Fry sauce.  Usually, that stuff is hardly spicier than Sweet & Sour sauce.  Well, it tasted more like Kung Pao tonight!  I guess there's garlic in there.  I've been  drinking water and Gatorade for the last 45 minutes.  And I thought the garlic  taste was fairly low today.  Not any more.

Ingredients (6 servings)
8 oz Self-raising flour
1 pinch of salt
4 oz Margarine
2 oz Castor sugar (Superfine)
4 oz To 6 oz sultanas (Big raisins)
6 TB Water

Instructions
Have ready a sheet of foil or a double thickness of greaseproof paper brushed with melted margarine.
Make the pudding crust: Sieve the flour and the salt. Rub in the margarine. Add the sugar and sultanas. Mix in the water to make a soft dough. Turn out onto a floured board and form into a roll. Wrap loosely but securely in the greaseproof paper or foil. Tie or seal the ends. Place in the steamer and cover tightly. Steam for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Serve with hot custard sauce or sprinkle with castor sugar.
Variation: At stage 3: Put the mixture in a medium-sized (1 1/2 pint) pudding basin with a round of greaseproof paper in the bottom and brush all round inside with melted margarine. Smooth the top. Cover with foil, or double greaseproof paper brushed underneath with melted margarine and steam for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Serve with hot Custard sauce or sprinkle with castor sugar.

I found a British pub that serves Spotted Dick.  It's about 30-40 minutes north of here.  I may give a try one of these days; just to compare.

I am not sure I would want to walk into a bar in southern Cali and proclaim I wanted some spotted dick.

just sayin...

You're right about that.  I'll probably just sheepishly point to the item on the menu.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?
