Mysteriously missing notes - with hypothesis. (and bonus question!)

Whenever I try to play my drum track it will only play a couple of the drums.

Worded another way:

When looking at the piano roll and the MIDI information for my Session Drummer 3 Synth - it's not playing every MIDI command.

However when I export the track to MP3 it sounds flawless!

Is it the old "onboard sound can't handle it" thing?

----------------------------------->      !   !   !

Also, Guitar Rig 3 is what I own:

Issue: Huge delay between plucking note on my geeeeter and the vibrating molecules of air in the room (sound)

Signal chain: Geeter ---> Samson GTrack USB Condenser Mic ----USB 1.0----> PC ------> back to USB Mic (because it's my sound card, as well) -----> Out to Receiver -----> to speakers.

Guitar Rig 3 Settings: Samples maxed so it sounds nice.

Question: What is the course of action needed to eliminate aforementioned latency? (or: would purchasing an interface eliminate the latency issue?)

Thanks kindly,

If you are using the Realtek Audio device for recording and playing soft synths I would certainly suspect that of being your problem. It is fine for playing Windows beeps and boops but isn't designed for pro audio and can't handle the processing those features demand. What driver mode are you using? MME or WDM/KS?

What is your project sample rate?

Chappel - I believe you are correct because when I create a "Normal" project and roll out some hardcore blast beasts and stuff on MIDI it'll play it just fine - it's when I tried to load up that nifty "Rock Project" template that it starts dropping the poor little MIDI notes.

-------------------> Update: Confirmed - Realtek onboard audio will not suffice when you're running even more than 4 track audio in X1 with synths such as Guitar Rig 3 modifying the sound.

--------------------> Workaround: BUY SOMETHING TO FIX IT or work with only one track at a time. for when you need the drums, just solo only the drums and guitars - and make sure that you have the synth disabled so you're hearing it dry, but at least you can get it down.

    Chappel's questions: answered here!

Driver mode I'm using: MME (32-bit)*
^^ only one that doesn't pop and crackle and lag when using synths - any other driver mode throws off my metronome and stuff because of the inherent lag. This driver mode seems to like pre process everything so when I hit "Record" i wait about 4 seconds for it to actually start recording, but then everything is on time with no crackles :) :)

Project Sample Rate: FourtyFourOne - 44100

Can anyone get back to me on my second question from earlier?

Is there a way to eliminate latency when playing through Guitar Rig 3?

I noticed it has a 'live' feature - I would love to take advantage of this if I could get the latency down to where it's not noticeable to my brain.

Also regarding Guitar Rig - how do I access the "Loop Machine" feature? It's all grayed out for me.

If you get an audio interface that is better suited for pro audio  you will get much better results using GR3. Not sure about the grayed out loop feature but it may not work in the driver mode you are using. That's just a guess.

For around $100, and up, you can get a USB audio interface or internal soundcard designed for pro audio use. That would most likely solve many, if not all, of the problems you are having. Then you could use the WDM/KS driver mode and get much better results as far as recording, playback, live use and latency.
