NATIVE INSTRUMENTS - Softube :: VINTAGE COMPRESSORS

NATIVE INSTRUMENTS and Softube present VINTAGE COMPRESSORS — the first in a new range of professional studio effects.

The VC 76, VC 2A and VC 160 are painstakingly accurate emulations of three of the most heavily-used compressors in studio history. Each has its own unmistakable sound, and thanks to added sidechaining and parallel compression, these VINTAGE COMPRESSORS actually improve on the originals.

The VINTAGE COMPRESSORS collection provides all three devices — each compressor is also available separately.

Aren't these the ones that have to be run inside Guitar Rig?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Yup. Powered by Guitar Rig. I've heard nothing but good things about Softubes, but I'll stick with IK on these.

I'd hate to have to keep Guitar Rig - which I have no use for - installed just to run these. The less NI products there is on my machine, the better. IK's sound great, anyway.

-1 on the GR shell thing... that seems to be the dealbreaker with a lot of prospective buyers ...

It's funny how NI first came up with a product with which you could basically do everything (Generator, then Reaktor), THEN started re-packaging components individually (B4, Pro52, etc.), then discontinued most of these and now forces you to use shells to use their new individual modules.

Same with Guitar Rig, which was then broken down into Guitar Combos which were discontinued relatively shortly after. And all the Kontakt, Intakt, Kompakt...

I run Kontakt because it's the default player for Steven Slate drums, but frankly, their marketing strategies and track record are just awful. Not to mention their buggy service center, which does nothing to prevent mass distribution of their software on the internet but is a pain in the butt for legit users.

It's sad because they make some GREAT software.

@Rain, you probably don't own a Kore system, do you, you would be doubly P.O...

    Yeah, I can imagine. :(

I'm usually quite careful where I put my money, even for little inexpensive plug-ins, and I have a list of big no-no's which includes the company's track record and their product's longevity and copy protection. No matter how much I'd like a piece of software, if the manufacturer doesn't meet those conditions, I just shop elsewhere.

W/ NI, in all honesty, if they discontinued a product I use and offered to migrate, I'd take it that it'll just be one more opportunity for them to screw me over at some point in the future.
Not like they're some big evil entity, it's just what often seems to be happening w/ their products.
