NEED HELP CANCELLING TTS-1 DRUMS SO I CAN USE MIDI DRUMS FROM WITHIN MY KEYBOARD
Hello All: I have already laid down a drum track. However, it's not playing back as midi drums from within my keyboard which I can control. I think it's because in Track Properties in the top lefthand corner it lists TTS-1 Drums and is not set to channel 10. In Track Properties input, I have selected Tascam US-144 Soundcard and channel 10, but when I close Track Properties it continues to list NONE for input. Output does list my soundcard properly. Channel is blank, grayed-out and does not allow me to access it. Both Bank and Patch say NONE. BANK SELECT METHOD, KEY and TIME are also gray-out and not accessible. It looks like I need to know how to get out of TTS-1 Drums and into midi. This is only happening on new projects. Older projects are working fine and all fields are accessible. My soundcard does show in Midi Devices under both Output and Input. I would appreciate instructions on how to rectify this or perhaps how to switch from TTS-1 Drums to MIDI. My setup is as follows: Roland XP keyboard external Tascam US-144 Soundcard Behringer Eurorack MX 1804 analog mixer Behringer Truth powered Monitors Brand New Computer: MSI A6000 Dual Core Pentium T4500 @ 2.30 GHz 2.30 GHz, 3.00 GB memory, 32 bit system. Thanks in advance for your help.

TTS-1 is the one that plays the sound. MIDI has no sound, it's like notation. Without TTS-1 (or some other VSTi) you will not hear anyhing. It's the TTS-1 that needs to be on channel 10, soundcard channel is another thing. If you want to record the sounds (if it's a synth) of your keyboard, you need to connect its audio out to your soundcard. And if you want trhe MIDI in SONAR to play the sounds of your keyboard, you route the MIDI-tracks output to your keyboard and record the keyboards audio output. I don't understand what can be the problem in "cancelling TTS-1". All you need to do is remove it or disable it.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

in addition to what Kalle has said, I'll suggest that you work thru the tutorials in the help files in SHS. there are several which go over how to work with MIDI and TTS-1.

You have to go to Options-MIDI Devices and make sure your MIDI interface is selected. I assume your keyboard is connected to the MIDI interface. Then go to the MIDI drum track and set the output to the MIDI interface. Make sure your keyboard is setup to respond to MIDI input, that usually means setting it to multitimbral or General MIDI mode. Set the channel on the track to channel 10 for drums if using General MIDI mode.

Hello Again All: I seem to have found an answer to my own question. In track view, there is an X at the bottom of the screen which, once clicked, deletes (TTS-1) the softsynth from the project; thus allowing me to only use sounds from within my keyboard. It then allows me to go into Track Properties and have access to fields which had been gray-out under TTS-1. I figured there had to be a simple solution and came across it. I know many of you like softsynths. I do not. Therefore, turning it off and using my keyboard sounds works best for me. Thanks to all who may have responded.

You didn't need to delete the TTS-1. All you needed to do was set the output of the track to your MIDI interface. I have both real synths and softsynths and both have their advantages. One big advantage of softsynths is that you don't have to record them onto an audio track prior to creating your final mix. With a real synth, any time you change the MIDI data, you have to re-record the audio track. With softsynths, you can bounce them to an audio track in a few seconds, if you want to add audio effects, or you can just select them and File-Export-Audio and they will be rendered to your WAV file.
