    Looks good on paper...
I just hope they don't increase RTL to support the onboard DSP.

If you look at the front of the UFX you will see a USB port.  The next firmware update will include direct to disk recording to a USB stick or USB external HD.

I thought I read it's got its own dedicated chip for that?  I don't think RME would dismiss something like that on a high end unit such as this one.

    Hi Jose,

$2,299.00 according to This Post on Gearslutz by Scott at ADK.

I'm going to borrow one from my dealer when they're available, to see if it's worth upgrading from my FF800.

    Hey George!

Thanks for the price info.  Please let us know how the converters sound and what's the round-trip latency on this baby, if you can.  Those are my main things.  Everything else looks good and are things I'm already excited about.

    Take care my friend!

from what i have been told everything has been redone on this unit.
this is not just a modifed Fireface 800. the ad/da, mic pres, etc. all new.
it has control support so you can use a mackie (or other) controller for the total mix etc.

Yes, very interesting piece of hardware.

    Does anyone knows this detail?

Using an external device set up as Mackie Control "should" control the RME, ok? (so you get something like a "digital mixer".... with faders etc...).

But, when you control the RME, Sonar will react as well at the same time .... ?????

Someone asked the same thing, but at the end there were no answers at this question...

    Any ideas?

    This looks very,very impresive

    I love RME.. as always = stable,stable,stable

This ought to challenge some "pro" perceptions about firewaire interfaces

impressive indeed!! - would expect nothing less from RME :)

Deactivate MIDI in Background (menu Options) disables the MIDI control as soon as another
application is in the focus, or in case TotalMix has been minimized. This way the hardware controller
will control the main DAW application only, except when TotalMix is in the foreground.
Often the DAW application can be set to become inactive in background too, so that MIDI control
is switched between TotalMix and the application automatically when switching between
    both applications.
TotalMix also supports the 9th fader of the Mackie Control. This fader (labelled Master) will control
the stereo output faders (lowest row) which are set up as Main Out in the Control Room
    section.

I like that it's got a dedicated AES input and output- which the FF800 didn't have.  like others, interested in how A/D D/A sounds (using a MultiFace II from 3 years ago now) and if the mic pre's are 'improved' ...not that they need 'improving'- have always heard 'not bad at all' things about the mic pres on the FF800.

     18. Using more than one Fireface
OS X supports the usage of more than one audio device within an audio software. This is done
via the Core Audio function Aggregate Devices, which allows to combine several devices into
    one.
The current driver supports up to three Fireface 400 or 800. All units have to be in sync, i.e.
have to receive valid sync information either via word clock or by feeding synchronized signals.
    • If one of the Firefaces is set to clock mode Master, all others have to be set to clock mode
Slave, and have to be synced from the master, for example by feeding word clock. The
clock modes of all units have to be set up correctly in the Fireface Settings dialog.
    • If all units are fed with a synchronous clock, i.e. all units show Sync in their Settings dialog,
all channels can be used at once.
Note: TotalMix is part of the hardware of each Fireface. Up to three mixers are available, but
these are separated and can't interchange data. Therefore a global mixer for all units is not
    possible.
In real-world an operation of more than one Fireface UFX makes no sense and is therefore not
actively supported by RME. Each further unit would lead to problems on the USB and FireWire
bus, caused by the high number of channels. The UFX has been developed as monitor controller
and – not extendable – digital mixer. It makes more sense to connect external converters to
the ADAT I/Os of the UFX, adding up to 16 channels of analog record and analog playback.

Your right they should have edited out the 800 and 400 part as its causes confusion. I would like the new totalmix software but not splashing out £1799.00 for what I have already in the fireface800. The difference in the pre-amps I would not hear anyway as the fireface 800 are excellent.
If  someone can persuade me otherwise then I'm open to suggestions.

Please no one tell my wife!  This thing may be one of the most important innovations in front end in a long time - if this really will support USB D2D recording while moving the same audio to either the USB or Firewire interface (or both !?!?!) that would blow away anything else I have for my on location rack -

Their Pres a are excellent and the software looks very session and mix ready - under $3000 is a great price for so much

I was just thinking about getting a new interface (literally) a few days before the UFX came out, but I won't be able to get this one for a while :-(.  It's exactly what I was looking for though.  The D2D on the front USB port is a feature that's still not supported as of the current driver, but it will be included in a future update, IIRC.  RME may also include the 'AutoSet' feature of the Micstasy converters at some point.  Still would love to hear about RTL and sound quality of the UFX in comparison to previous FireFace units.

Hi!  Sorry to resurrect this thread but I thought maybe you will find it interesting to read our review of Fireface UFX that we published today:

    http://en.audiofanzine.co...massive-recording.html

Indeed, we also agree that it is a killer interface, and one of the best products to come out this year.
