NI Kontour - and impressions of K10 update
I just upgraded from Komplete 9 to 10 (not ultimate). My assumption was that the Pianos and Session Horns would be the value components but I must say how impressed I am, at least initally, with Kontour. I have not got too deeply into tweeking it yet but the presets are excellent and I even had the basis for a track after being inspired by one. The jury is still out on Rounds but it also weems useful. I need to get my head around its less than conventional interface. Polyplex and Drum Lab just seem to give more of the same type of sound that remain unused in my Battery libraries. I am probably going to have have to force myself to experiment with them and see if I can make use of them. The Pianos and Session Horns are certainly going to be useful. What a step up from the old NI pianos in K9!

Very good to know Glyn......I'm still on K9 and planning on getting K10U. Being only one version up from 9 to 10, I wouldn't have imagined the piano's would be all that different (better samples?). I'm eyeing Kontour, Molecular, & Session Horns.....

I was never a great fan of the old pianos, these seem much better. I think they are completly new, the old ones dated back to NI Akoustik Pianos IIRC so they were quite old.

Pretty much the same for me. On K9U. The pianos seem to be an improvement. I haven't heard anyone say they weren't. The FX deal Molecular sounds interesting and of course Session Horns Pro. Good to hear some feedback. I bought Abbey Rd 50's Drummer for myself at Christmas and it is one of my fav drums.

As for the pianos, you still get Alicia's Keys and the Giant, but they add the Maverick, the Gentleman and, above all, The Grandeur. They were made by Galaxy Instruments, famous for their exquisite Steinway library.

No Alicia's Keys in Komplete, you need Ultimate for that.

Still downloading from the summer sale updates. I have the K10U. The 3 new pianos are pretty good. I have not play them enough to give a detail report. But I would rate them 8 out of 10. I own the Giant and Alicia Keys before this upgrade. The Giant is totally unique with a metallic sound which would probablly sit well with a rock band. Alicia Keys was designed for more mellow setting and is great for ballads and new age.

What's better than getting a song out of a new instrument or preset?

I haven't seen many complaints with NI Komplete Instruments in the new Sonar Platinum software mentioned here. Any precautions I should consider before making commitment to Platinum with NI Komplete 10? I'm running Windows 7 64bit ; i7 #930 2.83ghz with 12GB DDR3 RAM. E-MU 1820 24/192khz interface.
What if it is the only way?

I upgrade to K10U recently from K9U and I've no regrets. Just the session horns was worth it for me. I guess 11 will be out soon as the discounts are so big at the moment, but I'm happy to stay nearly a version behind. There's usually so much extra to try in the update that it takes the development cycle to get up to speed anyway.

Originally just did the K9 to K10 update, but loved the Session Horns so much I had to get the Session Horns Pro so got the K10U update too. At the sale price you can't lose. Plus the new pianos are really nice, the extra Abbey Road drums and a quick stab at Kontour was very interesting. Have to spend some more time with it. Oh and the SCARBEE RICKENBACKER BASS - very sweet. Having fun with that. Plus the Evolve packs and the Kinetic Metal and Damage packs seemed good after a quick perusal.

The Scarbee Rick bass is really good. Fun to play with the TriplePlay. I would love to have them do a Gibson Thunderbird bass. Seem strange no one has done a good T-Bird.
