NO CANCER!!!
Tests were NEGATIVE for cancer!!! WOO HOOO! Praise the Lord!!! Of course that means we haven’t gotten to the bottom of why I’m having the abdominal pain, but I’d much rather find out it’s NOT cancer than to have to deal with that. I am hoping that my pain is coming from the gall stones only. My GI doctor thinks it must be more than that because of the severity of the pain, but the surgeon is pretty sure it’s just the gall stones and wants to remove my gall bladder. I have a follow up with the GI doctor next week and I think at this point we’ll just look forward for gall bladder surgery and then see how things go from there.

My wife has had 2 bouts. Praise the Lord indeed! Go down to the local pub order a huge meat pizza and your favorite beer. Celebrate lifes little victories. Of course that may upset your stomach and cause more pain confusing your doctor and causing more tests but... what the heck.

That's wonderful news, Reece!!!! I'm inclined to agree with your surgeon. While I've never experienced gall stones, I've known many people that have, and my understanding is that they are very painful indeed. I wish you my best.

That's awesome news!!!! You can tell from my avatar I'm a big dude. I was curled up on the floor in a fetal position crying my eyes out like a little baby from the pain of gall stones. Especially when they block the bile duct ... OMG! If it's got to be something, I hope that's all it is Beag ... three tiny stab wounds, the reach in with a scope, yank it out, and you're home the next day. I'm really glad to hear it wasn't the big C. Bub

Reece, do you fully understand the implications of gall bladder removal? It's my understanding that once it's gone that the foods you describe as your favorite require a gall bladder to break down the grease. I know a few people who had their gall bladder removed... they can't eat the foods they used to eat without getting nauseous from the excess grease. The irony is that they end up having to eat the less greasy foods that they never became accustomed too. I am not here to lecture you and I know you have been struggling with eating low flavor high fiber type food. I am just trying to give it one last chance... maybe a thorough body flush and acceptance of the the low flavor high fiber foods can save your gall bladder and that way you can enjoy some of the good greasy food in moderation. I have one particular friend who grew up on southern cooking who was scheduled to have his gall bladder removed because of stones and at the last moment he went to a traditional Chinese doctor on a friend's urging. The doctor took one look at his tongue and got him on a high fiber diet... that was 15 years ago... and he still has a working gall bladder... which comes in handy. I have another particular friend, a tough old Viet Nam combat Vet who had his gall bladder removed because everyone told him that it was a normal thing to do... and he has to be a more picky eater than I am with my veggie whole foods lifestyle. I like working with him because he has to eat healthy or he gets nauseous so it makes decisions about lunch easy. The irony is that the guys that really like the becan end up forced to eat the lettuce. I'm just advising you consider the option of keeping the organ that has become over used and begin optimizing the inevitable by assuming an ideal diet that has room for an occasional greasy treat. all the very best, mike

Hi Mike, thank you and I am not offended or threatened by your advice at all. I have been seriously considering those very things, yes, I'm very well aware of it. I am not 100% certain I want to have my gall bladder removed. I think the medical community (and I use that term loosely) tends to remove gall bladders "willy nilly on the fly" to coin a southern phrase. I think the surgery is done way too often without considering the consequences. After all, God only gave me one gall bladder. I assume I need it - why should I let someone remove it??? Why don't they think I need it?? I will be weighing the cost and benefits of gall bladder surgery against the pain I am having. I am currently on a high fiber diet and though I have not had an attack in several weeks, that's certainly no true indication that the high fiber diet has resolved the pain. I've gone months without attacks before. so if a high fiber diet can keep me pain free then I am certain I'd rather keep my gall bladder. If, however, the pain continues then I think I have no choice at this point since we've pretty much ruled out every kind of possibility of anything else, even exotic diseases or conditions. thanks again for your advice, it is well recevied.
