NO.97

Wondering if i could get some feedback on this one. Was aiming for action backing track for a video. All I have is crap for monitors at the moment. Anything really out of wack? Thanks in advance! Open to any and all comments.

Sounds pretty good to me. The snare is a little sharp in places. It could stand a little more body maybe.

Sound good to me also, but it does lack body. It's a great start for something with more dynamics that can be added once you have the video finished. Then you will know where you want the more dynamic parts. Nice job so far. John

+ 1 to all of that.

The snares stop a bit abruptly too, and leave a dangling ring in mid-air in places, would put a volume envelope on them and cut them by hand to a full stop in the right spots.

For the body it seems you simply miss a good thump on several beats, 4 to be more precise. 1 during every first beat, 3 in the 2nd. long / short-short long - any thumping bass would do the trick. Could lay it over a part for you if that's still unclear, if you email me the mp3 or so, just as an example of what I mean - and you could see if that works for you.

Not right from the start, but after the intro, and could come and go as desired, to add more drive too. It's pretty OK for synth pieces to be one rhythm from start to finish, but with different accents it's much more effective.

Would give it the instant 'body' - but is not in the sounds, so upping generic bass levels etc won't work here I think - it's a few missing accents IMO.

Ok, thanks for your time and comments guys. Read your comments first, and listened again with a fresh set of ears.

droddey: I see (hear) what you mean with the snare. I chose it early on in the project and just couldn't decide. I'll go back to it and change it up a bit, thanks!

theguitarplayer: Thanks for the input, any ideas on what maybe you would do for dynamics?

Roflcopter: I changed the song to MP3 download on soundclick. I would be honored if you want to see what you can do. I did not add a distinctive bass part so you and theguitarplayer are right, lacking some body there. My ears must have gotten used to it mixing and such, figured the sysnth parts had enough to fill the hole. I would love to hear an example of what you mention.

Thanks again guys. I'll update the snare and be back to share

OK, I put it up, is just a quick jam, not quantized or anything, just me and the pad, in one take. Need to get a bit into the rhythm first time around, 2nd time is what I had in mind. Couldn't resist tossing in something distinctly non-synth in the intro

[edit:] turned out a kick was more effective than a bass thump.

Very nice track. I like the synth sounds and melody. Nice rhythm track too. I agree about the snare sounding a little thin. I enjoyed it. Make more.

    Alrighty then!

Roflcopter, I get what your talking about now! I have to agree, that would really add some body and punch. I really appriciate you taking the time to do that. I'll see if I can get to this sometime today. I like your idea. Now I just got to find the sound and the time to apply it. P.S. Actually I like the piano bit as well. It is really interesting to get a different perspective on this stuff.

clarkeo, thanks kindly for taking the time to listen and comment, glad you liked! I'll be back with more! Still learning.

    Thanks guys,
