NOBODYS HERE FRED CLOSED FOR CHRISTMAS

I'm here... kind of. I'm very sore so I might play a video game. I may also go through some old live recordings I've been meaning to clean up and see how well I can separate out the elements from the stereo wave using R-Mix so I can have a little control over the mix. That would mean digging though boxes though to get at the discs and I'm not sure if that is wise today.

Indeed. Actually when I moved here I sorted out the piles and piles of live stuff and rehearsal recordings I have saved over the years and semi organized them by band. There are literally hundreds of hours of material here. Some are cd's, some are cassettes, some are video DVDs and I even have some VHS stuff (but no VCR or software to transfer them to digital). A good portion of it is garbage but still fun to listen to for the outtake buffoonery and nostalgia (lots of old friends and bandmates I haven't seen in years). It will be a LOT of work going through it all (especially the stuff that needs to be digitized) but there is some gold in there and stuff that at the very least would be lots of fun to get together for my old bandmates.
 
First up though will be some things I'd like to "release". I want to clean up the recordings and get some isolation as I said to get the originals sounding as good as possible then for some stuff maybe do some overdubs to fill things out where needed. The first major pile of material I want to work on the guitar (my guitar) is really low/inaudible so I want to get that going (it's acoustic stuff and my guitar was kind of the back bone of the band while everything else was ornamentation) but on the recordings it always got washed out by the crummy PA and the crowd (which is another thing I need to get under control on the recordings). Then I want to do a bass track because I always wanted a bass player for that act but could never find someone who was willing to put in the time and dedication it took for that group. They were hard ass pros and you know how hard it can be to find good people. Like herding cats.
 
Anyway... it will be fun but I was gonna wait until I wiped the system and set it up properly because my file structure is whack and I know some better ways to set up a DAW now. I figure doing a couple tests just to play around and see if some of my ideas will actually work would be cool as I solidify my plans to sort out the techie issues.
 
And thank you for your support this year. You kind of caught me in one of my darker moments and your friendly and supportive communications was certainly appreciated. Things seem to be slowly working out. Looking forward to a productive year. Cheers and I wish you and yours the best in all things. :-)
