Name that gear...

Hey All,

I've been trying to figure out the rhythm/looper/recorder used by Roco Deluca.   It's in a pic on his website:

www.roccodeluca.com

It's the 10th picture from the left.  (it's the one with the dobro sitting on the chair.)

There's what looks like a recorder/rhythm machine with a line 6 delay pedal on the table.  Can anyone identify it?

thanks,

-R

The drumset (or at least the bass drum) is a 50's or 60's era Ludwig Clubdate in a duco finish ... very cool retro.

It looks like an 808, but it seems to be an updated version...If you look there are faders in the upper right corner of the box...

PS: it is a nice studio.  Guess that's what happens when you have Hollywood money.  (it's owned by Keifer Sutherland).

i threw away a roland 808 maybe 25 years ago because it sounded so awful and I wasn't using it any longer.  The cowbell and the high hat sounds drove me nuts.  I went for the first sampling based drum machine I could find, and ultimately settled on a Roland R8 as soon as they came available.  I still think that was one of the best beat boxes ever made.  Incrediblly edible, or editable, one or the other.

I never threw away a Studer 24 track though.

    Some people call me Maurice

SPLAT Pro lifetime, ADK 6 core 3.6Ghz with 32 GB RAM, SSD 1TB system drive, 3 3TB regular drives for samples, recordings and misc.  Behringer X Touch, UAD Apollo Quad.  2 UAD2 Quads PCI (i think - inside the box whatever that is), Console 1.  More guitars (40??) and synths (hard and soft) than talent.  Zendrum!!!

Please tell me 'threw away' is a figurative term meaning 'sold for a kajillion bucks'!

But yeah, I agree it's pretty cheeze. That can be a good thing, though. Even in heavy rock mixes, it's cool when they breakdown to a TR808 groove. But what confuses me is why the 808 became the "gold standard" while all the other equally-wonderfully-cheezy drum machines of the 80s aren't worth spit. I might be able to trade my Korg SuperDrums for a cup of coffee on a hot day.
