Native Instruments Licenses

Hi there

Couldn't find any info on this on the NI website and the form to fill in to contact registration support didn't have my products listed for some reason. Very odd.

Anyway, I have NI's Vintage Organs and Vintage Keys and I am aware that their licenses only allow them to be used on two computers, for which I'm already registered on. Thing is, I have three computers and am about to get an electric Piano for the lounge and would like to plonk down some sounds using my laptop.

Do any of you know if NI enable users to buy just one more license for their products? Or would I have to buy the products again

Regards

Stewart

How do they know that your old laptop didn't crash and now you bought a new one?
I say install it where you need it as long as it's for your personal use and you're not handing out copies all over town..

I have Sonar installed on 2 laptops and a desktop at home and on a laptop up at the girlfriends house in case the creative bug bites while I'm there.

Illegal? maybe to some people's way of thinking.
But in my eyes I'm the only one using it so I'm ok with it.
I bought the car and I'll drive it anywhere I need to go.

    Thanks Mike

    Much appreciated.

I totally agree with you. I bought the product and am the only user, using it on just one computer at a time. However, NI have a Service Center which the products are authorised in. This gets installed with the product.

With offline computers, which my other system is, NI's Service Center creates an ID file which has to be transferred to an online computer to generate an Auth file in its Service Center which you then transfer back to the offline computer where the product is then activated in the Service Center.

In my reckoning, once you have two authorisations for two different machines and NI have this info then that's it. Any subsequent activations would fail. I think they may force you to de-authorise one instance before being able to authorise another instance. Otherwise, their policy of 2 licences per product (3 with Komplete) wouldn't be enforced.

Perhaps I'm getting it wrong and I can continue to activate a third instance? Can't tell just yet as I'm needing to install a new HDD and OS on my laptop.

    Regards

FWIW, some NI products allow two installations, and others three (at least, I think they did the last time I checked). Are you sure you only get two licenses?

I bet if you asked they would extend you the courtesy of allowing another authorization.
    NI are pretty good people.
    Couldn't hurt to ask.

    Thanks Craig and Mike

I'll drop them a line as soon as I get my laptop upgrade.

    Thanks again

The NI license does not use any sort of ongoing server authentication because I use NI on my DAW which is never connected to the net.

Install and authorize the 3rd computer.  See what happens. If it refuses to authorize, you might need to email or call to sort it out.  What you tell them is up to you.

    Thanks Herb

That's odd. I recall Service Center checking for an internet connection and not allowing me to authorise on an offline computer.

I'll have to look into this.

    Thanks
