Native Instruments...Continual Authorization Woes...SOLVED

hello again...

[I know this is an NI problem...& more-than-likely NOT a SONAR problem...but I thought I should post here, just in case someone here has some experience w/ this]

just upgraded to SONAR XI...& now, with a few different Native Instruments (mostly Akoustik Piano)...every time I add it as a synth, the authorization dialog pops up...again & again...even tho I have authorized everything in 'Komplete 5' several times.

my audio machine is not online...so I navigate to my *.naf file...it tells me everything is OK...& the next time I attempt to add a synth, it happens again.

any ideas on correcting this...?

thanx,

mark4man

As long as I can remember, it's been necessary to run each NI program in standalone mode before launching it as a plug-in.  Doing the former step "initializes" something in the app so that it works correctly as a VST.

So, try it and see if it solves your issues.

    neither of those worked...

on using service center...my audio machine is offline (so I have to rely on the *.naf file)

on authorizing standalone...just like always...it worked until the next time I attempted to use the VIs or plug-ins

    contacting NI today.

    thanx for yer help,

it's a case of getting the naf file or whatever it is, but you de-activated on any exsisting machine that you needed to ? remember you can only run it on 2 machines.

there is a number of updates for the pianos but electric / accoustic.. both were discontinued and put inside kontakt (all the interfaces were, were kontakt anyway)

other things, are you running them as "admin" if it's vista or 7 ?

running stand alone first is the way normally as it generates files a lot of the time.

remember the NAF file is reliant on the machine spec also.. so maybe you changed something like mem , cpu, drives to make it not work.

it's the same *.naf file I used w/ my OLD machine...(not sure how to get a new one...or if I need one)

    But, I just upgraded:
    Kontakt 3.5.0 (& Library 3)
    Guitar Rig III 3.2.1
    B4 II 2.0.4
    Akoustic Piano 1.1.3

(& of course the Service Center upgraded along w/ these various others...to 2.0.6.001)
& that screwed things up to an even greater extent.

now it's asking me for serial numbers to Akoustik Piano & so forth (which...I never had...everything came w/ Komplete 5, as various disc sets)

so if I bypass & go right to my *.naf file...it tells me: errors occured during product activation

&...I'm still not activated...(Akoustik Piano is working...but who knows for how long...& it also read 'errors during activation')

now i'm really lost...just sent NI a support request

yes you do need to get a new one for your *NEW* pc.. the naf file is partly made up from specific specs of your pc . much as I can't run komplete 5,6,7 from my desktop to my laptop.

you can also download the service center separately.. there are updates for AP and EP , that might be causing the problem NOT having.

having your pc connected briefly with a decent router /firewall & av.. should be safe enough..

otherwise talk to NI tech support as the issue has nothing to do with sonar. (I run a lot of NI stuff without probs)

After many years of running my DAW totally offline, I finally bit the bullet on my new machine and my God, what a time saver with registration/authorisation of software and things like iLok accounts.

I'm running Windows Security Essentials on 3 separate machines now, it's got an extremely small resource footprint and so far, touch wood, not a single problem with any of them.

I do however only connect the DAW when there is something specific that needs it to be online.

    UPDATE...

    I can't believe it...!!!

NI tech support is telling me I must UNINSTALL & REINSTALL everything (!@?#$%^&*)

that is so weak, man...come on...that's my ONLY alternative...???

there HAS to be another way...that's like...the way out for techs who really don't really want to bothered

really disappointed w/ NI...I gotta tell u...seems to me now that their stuff has a compatibility problem w/ SONAR...this is TWO major problems w/ them now in four years...one in SONAR7 & now this debacle on a new machine in SONAR XI

(& please...any NI XXXX XXXXXXs out there...don't come back & say it's me...that everything is fine on ur machine...if it is, you're damn lucky)

I would get online with your pc and check for updates on all your stuff, make sure it is current, and while onle, use the service center to auth everything.

I did this and I have no problems with my Komplete plugins.

Akoustik Piano is a 32-bit plug-in only and it needs to run first standalone and with administrator privileges to initialize some data files.

After that, there should not be any problem loading the VST after the VST scan. If there is, make sure you are running with administrator rights - I think Sonar takes care of that for you - but I know that in other DAWs, like Live, I sometimes need to run as administrator when doing the VST scan.

My Registry data looks like this:

    - Jim Hurley -
    SONAR Platinum - x64  - Windows 10 Pro
    ASUS P8P67 PRO Rev 3.0;  Core i7-2600K@4.4GHz; 16 GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X;

well you can use AP and EP within kontakt , so that'll get rid of the 32 bit only problem.. not sure if they are the same pianos in komplete 7.. NI do a lot of content recycling.

NI has ary poor and confusing method of authorizing and updating.

Regarding keeping your DAW offline, I personally do all my Internet stuff on a separate (cheap) laptop to protect my music PC from viruses and spyware; however, I do plug it into the router when I need to authorize or update music software because it is just too hard otherwise.  The second I am done, I pull the ethernet cable out of the router.  That may sound paranoid, but I have had two horrible virus incidents, each of which set my work back weeks.

    well...

wanted to come back & acknowledge this thread as solved.

so...after a few different e-mails back & forth w/ NI tech support...in which I asked them TWICE if it could be as simple as having to generate a NEW authorization request for the NEW machine (as put forth by Fog)...while waiting for an e-mail support reply, I actually phoned them...& the phone tech I got thru to told me that was exactly the case...[& walked me thru it real quick like].

everything is good now...but I'm a little worried about support techs who, A) wouldn't know that was the required solution to begin with...&...B) didn't read my question as to that in my e-mails (~!@#$%^&*).

    thanx everybody...& thanks Fog...!!!
