I get the Osprey but I'm not sure what brand of Woodpecker that is.

It isn't one we see on our shores.

We have Green ones, Lesser and Greater Spotted ones and that's about it here, and he's none of those.

It must be a Mostly Black Red Crested Woodpecker, am I right?

I recognise he is the type that features as a famous cartoon character, which is reassuring in a way to know that Woody is not just a Hollywood Invention Woodpecker.

Is that a Pileated Woodpecker? It almost looks like one...

    Beautiful shots those....

Unlike The Bapu which is a CW CH invention cartoon character personality.

    Mike,
I love the shadows & highlights on the Osprey's plumage. You caught some good light on that one. And that one menacing talon prominently displayed. They always seem to be very selective about where they perch, just to keep those things out of the way. But what an awesome machine to watch in action.
We had one that used to hang around the pond behind our house in Denver. He always perched in the same spot.
He'd stay there for quite some time, scanning the pond. Then he would tilt his head, and kind of hunch up, dialing in the radar.
Lift off was a beautiful thing...two or three beats of his wings, those massive feet wide open, then a silent calculated glide to the water's surface, a quick sweep of the talons, and BAM...dinner... every time.
    Man, I miss that pond.
