Need Help Can't record using OctaCapture

OK Got an Octa capture and Sonar X1 Producer.  Had HS7XL before.  I can play  the older projects no problem in X1 using Octacapture but tonight I tried to record a new project and I 've run into a problem.  I'm sure I'm missing something basic.

Open new project
Insert Audio track 
Set the I/O for the Octacapture
Turn on  echo and arm record in track
I can hear the mic through the headphones but I don't see the meters light up.
I checked audio in preferences, Octacapture is set up
I also checked and initialized the Octacapture.

What am I missing?  I looked at all the troubleshooting in the Sonar Help and Octacapture help. rebooted, open and closed Sonar and Octacapture.  I'm at a loss.

It's like when the I.T.guy asks "is it plugged in".

What I as doing wrong (this is embarrassing) was......

When you have your mic plugged into Input 8 on the OctaCapture everything works so much better when the INPUT IN THE X1 TRACK IS SET TO THE OCTACAPTURE CHANNEL 8

At least this time I remembered to turn "echo"on.
