Need Opinions on Reverb

Hi all.

Just wondering if there are any opinions out there (haha...) on Lexicons' Pantheon Reverb which comes with Sonar, versus their MPX plugin.  Is MPX worth the cost when compared to Pantheon?  Any significant difference for $199?

Or... is anyone using something better than these two for around the same cost?

Thanks.

Tony

Breverb is only $99 when you upgrade to X2 ;)

Grab the demo, and if you like it, then you've got a cheap plug with a bonus X2!!!

I never liked the sound of the Pantheon - hardly ever used it.  Too thick or something.  I can't imagine I'd like the full plug-in better.  But that is just me.  I just got a mix back from a "pro" mixer and he did a vocal wash using the lex from the UAD, I think he said.  Wow!  He did a great job with it.

As always, it is a taste decision and how well the plug works for you.

Note:  I do like the breeverb.  If it was me I'd spring for the that - or get the Softube bundle if it goes on sale.

+1 - also my favorite convolution reverb.  For algorithmic reverbs, I like Valhalla Room, and the 2C Audio reverbs: Aether, Breeze, and their new B2 (highly recommended).

I was exclusive to UAD before Valhalla Room.

I still use UAD EMT-140 for drums though.

    Valhalla suits me for vocals.

One of these times all the Valhalla superfans should just add all their names to one long list, and then every time this topic comes up we could just link to it. It would save space over having all of us post the same "+1 ValhallaRoom" week after week.

In fact, maybe we should have a list of every product that's ever been unanimously (or at least broadly) approved by the forum rank and file. No more Valhalla, FabFilter, Ozone, Kontakt, Zebra or Omnisphere recommendations would be necessary. Appendix A could list all the stuff that's universally despised, e.g. Realtek, Boost11.

Bapu, maybe you should start that thread.

Lexicon's Pantheon never hit me as particularly good. I had better luck even w/ the Sonitus reverb. As for MPX, couldn't say, I've never tried it.

I'm one of the Valhalla fans on these boards.

My favorite reverb right now is Toraverb by D16 Group.

    http://d16.pl/index.php?menu=228

Super lush, expensive sound. Great tails. Cross-talking stereo modulation. Easy to dial in. Has the feel and sound outboard gear. Great UI. 64bit host compatible and also 64bit internal signal processing. Fully automatable and is zipper-free when doing it. It's not too expensive and also comes in bundle (the whole bundle is awesome). In fact, all their products are awesome. Their 808/909 emulator is incredible (not a cheap rom-ler, but fully circuit modeled).

You could say the same thing about the delays, compressors, EQs, limiters, brand of guitar, gauge of strings, size of the tom heads, or a million other little variables.  It doesn't mean that there aren't real differences to be considered when a person is making a buying decision.

Actually it was Ken Scott who said in a recent interview that he's sure that the success of a record was not whether the hit hat was 1 to 3 db too loud or too soft (paraphrased but you get the gist)

True, but the difference between a good mix and a crappy mix never comes down to just the hi-hat level, or the reverb setting, or the type of compressor.

More likely, the hats are 6db too loud, the vocal is 3db too quiet, the bass and kick are masking each other, the output is clipped and the whole thing's awash in reverb. No single detail is likely to be a deal-breaker, but failing to attend to every detail is a recipe for failure.

Bad reverb is the most telling attribute of an amateur mix. 9 times out of 10 it will be heard and be bothersome long before the attributes of the song, performance or musicality are measured. Just to add an alternate approach/opinion - There are a host of older hardware units that you can use under $300 that will yeild better results than most of the plugins found ITB except maybe the UAD Lexicon 240, that is one killer ITB plug in.

    Gear: A bunch of stuff.

    I´m a fanboy of
-1. sonnox reverb for small rooms
    and
    -2 IKM`s C S R for the big rooms

-3 Lexicon Gated Reverb for snare

Also liking the bricasti IR´s from samplicity ( free stuff and usable in Perfect Space)
    good luck
