Need Power Chord For Avalon VT 737 SP
Hi all: I really hope someone can help me here. I recently purchased one of these units used from EBay for $1700. It was supposed to include the power chord, but the unit arrived today with no power chord. Needless to say I'm trying to resolve this matter ASAP with the seller. In the mean time, I'm wondering if I can use a power chord for other gear I have to power the preamp. I really don't know about electronic things, but I do know I don't want to ruin such an expensive piece of gear by using the wrong power chord and resultingly burning something up inside the unit. I have some power chords around the house that go to other gear such as Numark DJ gear, old computers, old printers and such that have a similar power chord connectivity. On one of these chords, the female end of the power chord which will fit on the back of the Avalon Preamp, has written on the female end "1250W and 10A-125V." The power connector on the Avalon says "AC Input 50/60 Hz 75 Watts." Can I use that chord to power the Avalon? I don't want to connect one of these spare power cables to the Avalon and fry something. I would be heart broken. I need to test the functionality of the unit and make sure it is working correctly. The seller said he only used the unit 5 times, and the appearance of the unit is good, so I would like to keep it, if it's functioning good. What can I do for a power cable for this Avalon PreAmp? Please help?

Call Avalon. looks like any regular computer power cord would work, but you would have to check with Avalon. Avalon only has power cords and external power for a different model available for purchase on their web site.

Any IEC C13 power cable should be fine, but since you are unfamiliar with this idea I suggest that you contact Avalon at 949 492 2000 and ask them to about 120v and 220v operation so that you can make sure it is ready to go for 120vAC. best regards, mike

Thanks for the replies! I went to Avalon's site and found the number before you posted, Mike. :) Thanks for posting, though. And it's good to see good ole faces again, to sort of speak. Avalon says it's OK to use an old computer power chord or similar chords. I'm checking this unit over thoroughly. The seller said it's in near mint condition, and that it was only used 5 times. So far, the VU meter light is out. That's no problem, as long as everything else functions as intended. Cya all around.

Update: Everything else seems to be functioning good to go! Maybe it can use tube replacements. I contacted Avalon Design, and know how to get the tubes, VU meter bulb replacements, and manual. I have to agree with some others who's reviews I read stating that the compressor on this unit is kinda weak, but the EQ and preamp itself is pretty impressive! Not a bad purchase! :) In the coming months, I plan to purchase a few more pieces of high-end gear, but the rest will be bought brand new (AKG C414 XLII, MOTU HD 192, and a Neumann TLM 49.) Should have it all by June. Next month, the C414. :) Looks like it's gonna be a good year for me! Thank you LORD!
