Need Some Home Studio help with SONAR

I have a need to setup a remote (has to be wireless) control station for the transports of SONAR.... My guitar work area requires me to sit to perform (specialized pedal board where I need both feet moving and I have to sit).

I can set up the recording session at the PC but once I sit down, I would like to control the recording transports and rewind to re-record or listen while sitting on the chair of the guitar session.  The best scenario would be for me to have the remote control device on a stand as well for organizational reasons.

Any suggestions are welcome. My desktop is equipped with a wireless networking but if there exist some blue tooth solution, I am not opposed to checking that out as well.

I thank you in advance and walking back and forth is a buzzkill, let alone how all the guitar and headphones wires get entangled.  I would like to sit down and do as many takes as I need for the guitar tracking sessions.

Wireless keyboard for your PC? Or is it too far away for that?

I use an iPad running AC-7 core HD. Works very well.

How about trying a really long keyboard extender cable?

It might be "old school" - but it works!

Bristol,

I don't want any more wires.... I have a hard enough time keeping the cans/guitar and mic cables separated..... I have an iPad and an SURFACE....

JB,

Is the AC-7 core hard to setup?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Not really. There is a video on YouTube that helps you through connecting it to Sonar. You need to install some software on your pc first, but I got it up and running quite quickly, with only a little swearing.

Yep, you can also use TouchDAW on Android. Not sure about Windows Surface.

There is another more expensive app that apparently works even better with Sonar - you can open the prochannel in it amongst other things.  The developers worked with Cake.  There should be something on the Cake site somewhere.

Can't think what it's called.  It costs about fifty of our English pounds.  AC-7 is about five-ish.

If you only want it to start and stop, then youAC-7 is more than enough.

Check on eBay for a used Frontier Design Tranzport, it's a wireless transport control and just what you're looking for.

DJ....

I heard of that remote desktop thing... sounds like the solution?  I will have to research how to set up on the Surface (I have the RT and not the PRO) and the PC.

Super G....

If the Surface thing doesn't work out, I will check that out.... I think I found that device in my own research surfing the net... it looked interesting.

Thanks guys,
Jim

But where is the receiver?  Is it in the back of the PC?  Try connecting it somewhere else, e.g. in the front or on a USB extension.  With fewer obstacles between the keyboard and receiver, it may work at greater distances.

+1.  TranzPort is the bomb.  You can find them on eBay even though they've been discontinued.  I use mine on Win7 x64 no problem.  I actually bought a second NOS I keep in the closet just in case.  Also, by the way, no interference or conflict with my MIDI wired control surface (faders, etc.).

The manufacturer claims 33 ft but I've had it working greater distances.

DJ....

Took me about 30 minutes to read and configure both my WIN 8 DAW PC and the SURFACE RT.... quite easy actually and it works like a charm... so cool to have the complete SONAR GUI screens portable.. I have setup workstations both by the keyboard rigs and the guitar amp room to be able to record and track instrument parts without going back and forth to the PC.

I can't thank you enough and the best part is that it was FREE for me in that I already had the SURFACE.

Thanks,
Jim

I'm getting an itch to do a Sonar transport control app for Android phone. I've had great success playing with the Sonar's control surface SDK.
