Need a little help troubleshooting a tempo effect issue.
X1 x64 version Create a new project with a tempo of 30 BPM. This is very slow to make the problem stand out. Load a softsynth and create a midi track with a series of quarter notes for several bars. Place the Cakewalk Tempo Delay on the audio output track of the softsynth and set the delay time to 1/8 notes. Turn the feedback control to 0. You should hear the original impulse on the downbeat and the hear the echo on the upbeat. You will be able to vary the tempo and always get the same effect. Right now my echo is showing up on the following 1/16th note. I also get the same unexpected behavior with the SONITUS delay. Using another tempo based effect, I've noticed that the 32 bit version works as it is expected to work. As soon as I reinstall the 64 bit version I get the unexpected behavior. I'd like to see if the problem can be replicated before I report it.

I can confirm the same happening here. However, even with sonitus in 8.0 32bit it is doing exactly the same thing. To get the echo on the 1/8th note I have to select a factor of 1/2. In the help it seems to indicate it is based on musical time but it actually says factor and it appears to be operating as a ratio of the time signature rather than musical time based. In other words, if you want an eight note delay you would set it to 1/2( 1/2 of 1/4 from 4/4) 1/4 note delay would be 1 and a 1/16 would be 1/4 etc. Again this is how it appears to be working to me but I don't know if the help info is incorrect or if I am just misreading it. We may need Scott Garrigus to decipher this one.

This looks like a SONAR issue and it affects how other tempo based FX will sync. So developing a work around will only allow the issue to continue to exist. Also, using tempo that are factors of another tempo helps with the work around. IOW, 120 BPM, 60 BPM, 30 BPM make it easy to change the delay time to 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 to get the results you want. But what if you go from 105 to 93 BPM? I need to check the Cakewalk Tempo delay with another host to see if it works as expected there. If it works correctly then I will report the problem through the appropriate channel.

I don't know about the Cakewalk Tempo Delay, but I think Sonitus Delay is working as it always has, and as designed. The "Factor" is not the fraction of a measure as you might expect, it's the fraction of a beat. So if you want an eigth-note delay, and the beat is 1/4, you set the factor to 1/2. I checked the help, and it does say that Factor is based on "musical notation", but I think that's just not well-expressed.

I have to say that the Cakewalk implementation is a bit confusing but I can see why it might be the way that it is. Depending on the time signature a delay set on 1/8 may give you a delay every half beat if you are in 4/4 time using my way of thinking. But if someone was working in 6/8 time it may give a delay every beat or even every third of a beat depending on how the tempo pulse was being interpreted. I think for the most part tempo delays are being used in standard 4/4 time or some other quarter note pulse but it isn't a given in all cases. I'm going to cal it "as intended."
