Need advise/help on sampling (I think that's what it's called!)

  Hi there. I'm working on a theatre project, and I need to create some sounds for a piece. I know this sounds silly, but I want to have random farting sounds eventually turn into a song. So basically, I need something that can take a recording (.wav file) of a fart, and be able to play it at different pitches (notes) to create the song. I need a simple, inexpensive way of doing that. I imagine it will be some kind of midi sequencing software? Any ideas of what I could use? Thanks! Walter

    Welcome to the forum.
    Do you have a Cakewalk program already?
    Many Cakewalk programs include a sampler/sample player called DropZone which will do what you want.
    I'm sure other DAW programs may have a similar sampler.
    BTW, no, you can't borrow my microphone.

    Thanks Greg for the warm welcome and for your informative reply. I do not have cakewalk. I remember having cakewalk back when I built my first 386 PC, but I'm sure times have changed since. I'm hoping to find freeware that could help me complete this task. Do you have any suggestions for such a program? Is "DropZone" part of cakewalk, or is it it's own program? What is DAW stand for? And finally, we're just using whoopi cushions, promise (hides cans of bean stash)

    DAW= Digital Audio Workstation.
    I don't know of any freeware DAWs but I'm sure there are some that will do it.
    DropZone isn't available seperately; it's part of some of the Cakewalk programs.

    I've heard of this one: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
    It's a free recording application and it reads on their site, "change speed or pitch of your recordings".
    So you could record you noise, copy the noise multiple times and change the pitches to what you need for your song, then add other instruments or vice versa.
    Of course, since this is the Cakewalk forum, I recommend SONAR X1, whichever version is least expensive and includes DropZone.
