    Firstly, we need much more info to help you

     how are you importing from the numark to sonar?

    using preamps?

    what soundcard is in the pc? you will need something more than a 1/8 inch jack for quality.

    what bitrate and sampling speed are you recording at ? 44k 16bit? or 44k 24bit.

    what are you using for a monitor system?

    I7 2600k 3.4g on a ASUS MB with 16 gb of ram
    FireFace 400 AI / Sonar 8.5 Producer / ToonTrack Superior Drummer 2
    Alesis M1 Active MKII / Ibanez 7 string / Fender Super-Sonic
    Schecter studio 5 bass / Boss Dr. Rhythm 880 , also Yamaha DTX full rack drum pad trigger system

    Im importing from numark mixer(rca's to 1/8 jack) with soundblaster soundcard. 44k 16bit, records mixes but bass drums & basslines arent coming out with the full sound. Using home studio 4, imports songs at full quality but recording is different.

    sound blaster card..... uhhhhhhhhhh.

    A SB is not the best card to use with Cakewalk software. You should really have something better.  A good USB external audio interface will go a long ways toward getting you where you want to be.

    You mentioned a laptop with an i7 processor.... is the OS W7... and if so 32 or 64 bit?  You need to check the software specs to see if it runs in 64bit mode.....or if it needs to run in 32 bit emulation mode.

    There's 2 things to start with.

    There might be more that's messing you up.... but if you take it one thing at a time, you can have a nice smooth running DAW.

    Also check your sampling rates, I believe soundblaster is 48khz, if you are using 44.1 in cakewalk and 48 in soundblaster....problems....
