Need help routing VST effects bus via Steven Slate Drums 4
My initial question about Steven Slate 4 was this: "I have breverb reverb plugin which sounds great to add room verb apart from it destroys the cymbals. Is there a way I can isolate the drum hits, and send that to a stereo effects bus?" I got an answer: "Create an AUX in mixer and then go to a drum's edit settings and route the mics to the aux. Then in the mixer, route the aux to its own track in your DAW. Then put the reverb on just that part." Can someone walk me through the bold area? Step by step would be great. When I click on any part in the SSD mixer aux I created, I can;t see an option to route it to the effects bus I created in X1.

Don't worry, neither can I,I do not understand where this "extra Aux buss is?,as I can't see it in the SSD4 mixer? Hopefully someone else who knows what S.Slate is exactly saying can translate. As far as setting up SSD4 as multiple tracks in X1,that just means ticking, "Make all Synth outputs as a stereo tracks" in the Soft Synth options/property pages, then changing the out's in SSDs mixer,Edit instrument page,to match the tracks in Sonar,I always route "Room" and Overhead,to their own tracks like the rest of the kit,but sometimes,if I'm sketching,I just "Use Simple Instrument Track",and have the whole thing on 1 stereo instrument track. If, and I'm only suggesting this as a workaround, if you do all your mixing in Sonar, and route each kit piece out of SSD into it's own audio track in Sonar, you can set up whatever sends you want to feed into brevrb which will now be on a Sonar Aux bus.

I got more info: "Hi thefyn, As described... Create a new AUX channel in SSD's Mixer page and then select a desired kit piece to route by clicking its channel... lets say a Snare for example. Aligned top, centrally, you'll see a panel saying "Microphone", and underneath "Routing Destination". The first drop down allows you to select which microphone you wish to route, and second allows you to set its destination (for such purpose you'll select the newly created AUX). Now, select the AUX channel and set its output (selected at the bottom of the channel), and in your DAW create a new track and set its input to same as the output you just set for the AUX. You can now instantiate your Breverb plug-in on the track in your DAW and have full, separate control of the kit piece without compromising those cymbals. Cheers" buuuuuut: Bold is the part I had trouble with: "Select the aux channel and set it's output." I can't actually see anything clickable that lets me point it to the daw effect bus I created. I may have a GUI issue. I asked him for a screen capyure of where to click. If, and I'm only suggesting this as a workaround, if you do all your mixing in Sonar, and route each kit piece out of SSD into it's own audio track in Sonar, you can set up whatever sends you want to feed into bobguitkillerleft Don't worry, neither can I,I do not understand where this "extra Aux buss is?,as I can't see it in the SSD4 mixer? Haha, don't tempt me. I can do without 30 tracks. Plus I'm kinda newbish..how would I go about that? Avoid create XYZ because I probably don't know how to and where to go etc, haha. If you don't have SS4, I suppose it will be hard for you to explain to a guitarist. I don't know how SSD works, but if it's anything like BFD, then when you insert it as a synth inside Sonar, you simply select "All Synth Outputs: Mono" and Sonar will insert as many tracks for you as SSD exposes. From there, if you're new to this then it can get a bit tricky, but basically you map each kit pieces output from SSD to Sonars input, deleting any surplus audio tracks when you've finished.

Hey Jonesey,I'm only just now realising individual drums should be set up as MONO! It only takes me a year to work out the simple stuff,it's why I've put BFD2 on the back burner. Cheers Bob

Bob, in addition to the direct "hits" on individual kit pieces, BFD also gives you 3 stereo pairs (which are phase aligned) which you can bring into Sonar - they are Overheads, Room, and Amb 3" You the user can control exactly how much of each kit piece is sent to these stereo pairs but you have to be mindful of panning - you cannot control where any piece in placed in the stereo field (though you can flip channels if that helps) I have used the Amb 3 channels to set up a dedicated parallel drum track with good results

Hi,with Slate 4,you can place room, overheads, also each piece, and for certain setups, you can have multiple mic positions on the snare, each with it's own fader. I'm still working it out[obviously] but you can get just as "dry" sounds with SSD,as with BFD,and apparently, like the OP's quote says, you can add channels to the mixer in Slate, also the cymbals, are what got me in. Ambient 3 or 3rd sounds interesting,I just don't have the time,or the braincells to start from scratch, which I found with BFD,I'm sure,I will get into it before this decades out though[I hope!] I just wish I'd either bought BFD2 earlier,or I'd saved my money,as SSD4 is so instantly usable, after going through EZ,SD3,SD2,ssd3.5 in Kontakt, but I jumped on the $149 sale as I'd heard how extensive it is.
