Need help to eliminate the sound glitches
While playback of the track that I have recorded, there are sometimes sounds of glitches in the music. This sound of glitches also happens when I am playing a sound and recording a track too. Can anyone help me? Maybe the problem is with the settings? I am currently using Toshiba laptop, Intel i5 processor, with Windows 7, and 4GB of RAM. Thanks.

are you using your laptop's onboard soundcard? if not, we need to know what soundcard manufacturer and model you're using and which driver mode and what your latency is set to. if you are and don't have a clue what I just said... try moving your latency slider to the SAFE side. OPTIONS>AUDIO on the window that pops up, move the slider to the SAFE side. also when you respond, it will be helpful in the future for you to tell us what version of sonar you're using.

Q1: are you using your laptop's onboard soundcard? A1: I am using Roland's midi / audio interface: UA-25 Q2: if not, we need to know what soundcard manufacturer and model you're using and which driver mode and what your latency is set to. A2: Latency mode... when I clicked on Edit --> Preferences --> Audio --> Driver Settings --> Mixing Latency --> Buffers playback queue: 2, and The Buffer Size is dimmed and I can't set the buffer size at all... dunno why i can't set the buffer size although Sonar X1 on other computer can set it. You said "if you are and don't have a clue what I just said... try moving your latency slider to the SAFE side. OPTIONS>AUDIO on the window that pops up, move the slider to the SAFE side. " ==> But I can't find the Options --> Audio anywhere in my Sonar X1 Producer. Can you pls show me step by step on how to get there? Thanks. You said "also when you respond, it will be helpful in the future for you to tell us what version of sonar you're using." ==> I am using Sonar X1 Producer and I also did update the patch a and b already. However, the glitches still continues.

right - that's exactly why I needed to know which version you're using. X1's functions are not accessed the same way that 8.5 and below's functions are and this is the forum for 8.5 and below. using ASIO mode you can't change the slider, it's designed that way. that's one reason I said to do it only if you didn't know what soundcard you're using or if you knew you were using your onboard soundcard. open the UA25 software and look at the hardware buffers THERE if you're in ASIO mode. that's the only place you can change them if you're in ASIO mode.

johnnyV: I am new to this forum. I thought this is for any version of Sonar Producer. Beagle: Actually, one of my friend helps me to install the UA25 driver. Now he is busy, and unfortunately I am unable to approach him now. So, may I know how do I access the UA25 software to change the hardware buffers? I am indeed in ASIO mode. Thank you very much.

i have the same laptop as you except i have the i3 processor..im going to toell you what to do first..and it is what beagle told me what to do when i was experiencing some glitches and noises..clipping type sounds.if this is a laptop you use to brouse the internet with also..thats not a problem..but you need to..i stress..you need to disable your network card in device settings.its easy and you can change it back anytime you want.open up device manager/goto network settings/expamd the list/go to wireless, not wifi.just wireless(it wil disable both)right click on it and choose disable.you will be prompt "are you sure" click yes..your only disabling not uninstalling so make sure you just click disable..that cleared up 80 percent of my problems.i also came to this concluction by running the dpc latency checker(beagle also taught me that as well) i would start there then work on my drivers getting those in check...even if your plugging in with an etherenet cable still disable it.i thought by plugging one in it would automaticly disable it..it wont..i have device manager shortcut on my desktop for this reason alone..but now im totaly off line so i dont need it anymore..start there..trust me.do it now ps..to get to your softwares slider..go to preferences by clicking P on the laptops keyboard..go to driver settings..at the very bottom youll see asio panel..click it..theres the slider

Thank you so much, to all of you who have posted comments here. chuckebaby: The glitches is solved after I disable the wireless. However, I have got a question. When I clicked on ASIO Panel button, my ASIO Buffer Size is set to 6. May I know what is the ideal ASIO Buffer Size? Thanks. Meanwhile, I am downloading the DPC latency checker.

a buffer size of 6 doesn't make sense unless you're talking about the "number of buffers" in the OPTIONS>AUDIO panel. that should be set to 2 (default) unless you know why you're setting it higher. setting it higher can cause adverse problems. chuckebaby has some great advice there. to open you UA-25 software in ASIO mode, click on the ASIO button at the bottom of that window in OPTIONS>AUDIO and it will bring up your UA-25 software. I don't have that soundcard, so I don't know exactly where to find the HARDWARE BUFFERS once you have it open, but it shouldn't be too difficult to find once that's open. it will probably be listed in terms of "number of samples" such as 64 samples, 128 samples, 256 samples, etc. try increasing it in small increments until the problem goes away. if you get up to the 1024 samples and above and that doesn't solve the problem then you've got other issues besides latency/CPU relationship problems. the DPC latency checker and the other things that chuckebaby mentions might help in that case.

Glad to see your on your way to glitch free recording. It takes a bit of fuss and especially laptops. Defiantly download and run the DPC meter available free here: http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml I find just 2 things that cause trouble and that's the above mentioned Wireless card and the Battery management, which is also found in the device manager. It's a background utility that polls your battery to see if it's charging etc. Disable it and all that will happen is you loose the battery level icon in the tray. Ecellent sudjestion to put a shortcut to the device manager on desktop. I've always got a control panel and audio devices shortcut handy. Your interface should have an icon in the control panel. Yes- you should try the X1 forum, there are usually 33 people there compared to only 3 here. Lot's of excellent help. It's the one at the top of the list on the forum home page. If you got here through a back door just click the "all forums" at the top here.
