Need some drum help.

Hi all. I need some help with drums. Here's the deal. We laid down tracks to a song using an ez drummer groove as our click track (just for time). Now I want to tweak that track, say add cymbal hits, fill, ect. The last song we did, I had a tough time with some of the timing when adding fills, or cymbal hits to the groove. It wasn't a nightmare, but it would be nice not to have to go back thru a song and move notes around to get them in time,
How do I fix this problem? I've tried quantize, with no luck. Thanks in advance for your help.

your best bet would be to do it by hand and not try to quantize since you're looking at specific hits and not the entire track.  open the Piano Roll View (PRV) for that MIDI track of drums and edit each individual hit by moving them with the mouse.

That's the way I've been doing it. It gets a bit tedious. Thanks Beagle.

liv4ree, it may be tedious to add those cymbal hits, but Beagle is on the money. It's the best method to achieve a realistic feel.

I've done EZDrummer grooves wholly by hand in the past if I can't find one that's suitable for my needs. When I copy and paste I always vary the PASTE location by a millisecond or two either side of the start of the measure where's it's being pasted into to avoid that mechanical feel. I'll then go along and add fills as necessary. When I'm doing this I NEVER have snap toggled on.

If your system is suffering from a bit to much MIDI latency the hit's may be off a little more than desired.  If you hover the mouse over each event you will see the timing. But quantizing  if you set the right note value should work perfectly. Sometimes it takes a few tries with different values. Watch for triplets.
But ya, sometimes a long tedious session of hand editing garnishes the best results.
I often build drum tracks starting with a drum machine type template. I then redo it using the good old one finger method on my controller each drum part at a pass. I clone the original drum track, then delete each part as I go starting with the kick.

Thanks BluesMeister, and Cactus.  I don't have any issues with Midi latency. It looks like I just need to get down and dirty when it comes to getting the drums laid down.
