Need some help with XP...
I tried to format an old PC and do a fresh install of XP on it last night. During the install, it asked me for the product key which I can't seem to find. This is a purchased copy XP Home Edition which I got from New Egg about 5 years back. I haven't used it since then and don't have it installed anymore on my DAW......is there any way to get the product key from Microsoft or some other way? (I genereally keep all my product key's and software registrations all together in one of my email addresses (just in case I need to print it at anytime) and apparently, I've not saved the XP key in this file.) Thanks....

If it's an OEM machine you can sometimes find product keys on decals on the back of the enclosure. best regards, mike

Thanks Mike......but the PC is an old Dell machine and the XP was purchased seperately when I built my DAW.

Mesh Thanks Mike......but the PC is an old Dell machine and the XP was purchased seperately when I built my DAW. .. and the product key should have been on a sticker that you attach to the machine so that a) You know that machine is licensed and 2) You won't loose the product key because you stuck it to the machine...

You can always look at some other enclosures... just to make sure you know where the stickers with the keys are located.

Yeah Mike....I think I'll go and do a full search for this (I faintly remember keeping the original packaging somewhere in boxes.....). I just wasn't sure if contacting Microsoft could do anything?

If you had the key you'd find they are remarkably helpful but I think you'll hit a brick wall with out the key. But if you have the time why not ask them. What bapu was suggesting that I did not suggest is that I never suggested that there may be an expedient work around. If that makes sense? If not ask bapu to get Jonbouy to explain it. :-)

My copy of XP came with a sticker on the back of the Setup guide. It is very important not to loose that sticker..... Keep the disk in the box it came in, and keep the sleeves with them. Some of the DAW disks and VST's have the serial number/key on the paper sleeve. Maybe a call to microsoft's support line may help.
