Need some tips on drawing controller envelopes
I just can't get the hang of it. Awhile back I was working on a song with some pitch bends of +-2 and saw that I could send that info to the sequencer from my keyboard using MIDI Bulk Dump. I did that, and now I can't increase that +-2. I've tried resetting the keyboard pitch bend range to maximum resolution (+-12) and resending the MIDI Bulk Dump data, but SHS 6 still only bends the +-2 I previously sent, regardless of the range I use on the keyboard. I have also reset the Yamaha to it's default settings thinking that would work. So I have to draw in the bends I want, but it's not too intuitive trying to bend in a range of -8161 to +8161. How do you know what the note you're bending to is? Is it a matter of trial and error until you get the correct-sounding bend? Edited to add: working in PRV with controller pane.

pitch bend, or "WHEEL" is going to affect the note at the point in time exactly where it is below the note in time. I am using S8.5, so things may look a little different. also, I have an icon that allows me to "Select Controllers along with notes" (which I've highlighted) but you might not have that, I don't know.

oh and IIRC, +8196 is going to be 2 half steps and -8196 is going to be down 2 half steps. I'll see if I can find anything on that to confirm.

yes, I was correct. +/- 2 semitones The General MIDI specification recommends that the total range be +/- 2 semitones. [ so, +4098 = 1/2 step +2049 = 1/4 step etc

Thanks, Reece. I couldn't make my pitch bend wheel input more than that MIDI Standard amount. I couldn't draw in more than that amount, natch, but I remember being able to use the wheel to bend +-1 octave in the past. I discovered my problem; I had unchecked the "Always Echo Current MIDI Track" awhile back to keep the keyboard from audibly doubling the volume (the keyboard's patch and the MIDI Pane patch simultaneously). Checking that box enabled me to bend the full 2 octaves again and have it play back that way. And no, SHS 6 doesn't have that icon.

Even more than 2 octaves, if your keyboard can do it, theoretically.
