Needing Assistance - Sonar X1 Essential

Iv'e recently bought Sonar X1 Essentials, and iv'e noticed that when saving files you cannot save as an mp3 file? The Options list : Normal, Template,Cakewalk bundle etc. I'm Very new to this, I Just want to be able to make songs and hear them as mp3 in windows media player etc. I don't even see an option for mixing down the full song after the song is complete. Maybe something is missing, I don't Know what i can do. Please inform me on what to do about this matter. Thank You.

Well - the mp3 encoder is not included in Sonar X1. This has to be purchased separately (just like other DAW's as Cubase etc.).

    However - there are a few work-arounds.

The easiest way is just to download and install the free Audacity wave editor. Export your song as .wav (this has a much higher quality than mp3 by the way). Now load the .wav file in Audacity and convert it to mp3. Audacity gives you full control over the parameters for conversion (like bit-rate etc.), so you can make a tailor-made mp3.

Another way is the free LAME encoder and install that in Sonar. Just search the forum here for the instructions to do that.

If you do not want to do any of the above, you can always buy the mp3 encoding extension from Cakewalk. It is not that expensive.

    Hi,
Sonar X1 does not ship with an mp3 encoder. X1 Producer has a trial version, but you will eventually have to buy it.

If you would like to render your project in the form of an mp3, you can consider looking at the free alternative, LAME mp3 encoder found here: http://lame.sourceforge.net/

If you want to mixdown your song, it probably isn't under "Save as..."

There would probably be an option such as "Export ---> Audio..." or something similar in your File menu.

    Best,
