Neutron - Track Assistant

Hi,

I decided to make this as a topic. Several topics about this software, but not directly towards this issue. First of all, I know that Cakewalk Sonar is not yet officially supported by this plugin. I have tried it now for 2 days & works fluently for me. The only thing & main thing for me to test out is the "Track Assistant" feature. I just can not get it to work. It just spins, and not generating any custome preset starting points. The graph is active while it`s spinning, but that is it. It says "wait for 4-10 seconds".

This is for sure a thing for Izotope support and I have sent them a support ticket today.

But if there are anyone here (I know here are a few at least), that got it too work, then it would be nice what you did? I would not have written this issue here, if I haven`t read an earlier thread, that some people got the track assistant working. I just can not figure out how. Frustrating since the demo is only 10 days & I am already on day 3 & I guess there will be no answere from Izotope support before earliest monday.

Any help or leads appreciated.

works fine for me
i just start the track/song playing, and with the instance of neuron open on the track you wish to work with hit the track assistant button, that's it, it does its thing and bob's your uncle.

some dude up top in the sonar forum says that he can only get it working by first hitting the track assistant button then hitting play, whatever works i guess. i just followed the instructions and it works fine. are you using the vst3 version or vst2? they also say upstairs that the vst2 version could be problematic, i have only run the vst3 version.

Hi there & thanks for answering. I tried every method now for 2 days, but it just won`t work. I use it on audio tracks & every other thing works fluently, but not the track assistant. So, the most important thing for me to test out is not working & I am sure the most helpful feature as a starting preset for every track.

I have 10 days to figure this out, so wish me luck

Edit: I am using vst3

Edit II: The strange thing is that the visual graph for the track is running & of course it is recognizing the audio, but just spinning, spinning & more spinning...

Sorry I can't help, but to me it works using the vst3 version on the last version on Sonar Artist. Sidechain don't work.

Have you tried reinstalling Neutron.

By the way don't expect too much from iZotope support. They will not assist you on issues with unsupported DAWs.

I know. I have Sonar Premium & tried everything now. I give up. Using it for the remaining 7 days of the demo and that`s it. I just can`t figure it out & need to stop trying and forget about this plugin, before I ruin my whole weekend

I tried to re-install it several times, installing only the vst3 & becides that every possible solution I could come up with for the last 2 days.

I even tried to re-install Sonar today. But I doubt I have messed up the settings so much, that it should affect a vs3 plugin. Never happened to me before. All my plugins works super good, becides this one. Too bad, since I really liked the idea of this Neutron.

keep your eye on it, maybe something will turn up, it's a pretty good plugin, i am liking it a lot.

there was a new update to sonar released today (not that it has anything to do with this, but . . . ) install that and give it another shot, you never know, stranger things have happened

I have not used this plugin much yet, but did confirm last night that the transport must be running to feed audio into the "Track Assistant" algorithm. Have you tried both the VST2/VST3 versions with the transport running? If so, you may want to also try a simple re-install of Neutron, since you may simply be dealing with a bad installation. I have had bad installs before and you can troubleshoot till the cows come home and never gain any ground.

FWIW, some plugins do absolutely nothing with the transport stopped because they rely on the audio buffer from the transport to feed it. Conversely, some plugins pass audio with the transport stopped (e.g., iZotope Vinyl), which can also throw folks for a loop. Ironically, all of the plugins I associate with either are iZotope's.

Edit: Please see post below, there is actually a bug in the Neutron Advanced version included with the Music Production 2 bundle.

I think I may have found your issue. After having run Neutron Advanced in trial mode without any issues as all, I purchased the Music Production Bundle 2, and after that installation, the Track Assistant displayed exactly what the OP depicts (it doesn't work, period).

The solution for me was to re-install the Neutron Advanced version (can download that from the "Try" link here). I simply installed that version (name is "iZotope_Neutron_Advanced_v1_00.exe") over top of the existing installation, and reopened SONAR. After that, the Track Assistant worked again.

It appears that the Neutron Advanced version baked into the Music Production Bundle 2 has a bug in it.

Quick Edit: I also just submitted a bug report to iZotope directly and linked this post for them.

well there you go, although i upgraded to mpb2, i installed from the individual installer, the only things i didn't already have from mpb2 was neutron and the rx plugin pack, so i just installed from the individual installers

Re: Neutron - Track Assistant 2016/10/09 15:57:11 (permalink)
I purchased Neutron Advanced and have been using it with Sonar Platinum for 3 days. I am very impressed especially with the Track Assistant feature.

My typical track set up uses Fab Filter Pro for EQ, iZotope Ozone Dynamics for compression, iZotope Limiter, and iZotope Insight for level reference, plus other effects, i.e. delay, reverb, etc. It usually takes me several hours to get everything tweaked (not including volume levels)

Yesterday, I did an experiment on a song that I had just finished up. I disabled all the Fab Filter and iZotope plug ins and inserted Neutron in each track. I then ran track assistant on each track, along with setting the limiter at my desired level in Neutron. Total time was an hour to tweak all the tracks. I'm sure I can get this time down once I work with the program and get templates set up.

When I compared the Neutron EQ nodes with those that were in Fab Filter Pro, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Frequencies, Q, Gain/Boosts were very similar. I realize that Track Assistant offers starting points, and can be seasoned for personal flavor, but I think this will be a fantastic time saver for me. In addition, I’m concerned about my hearing loss and this tells me that even with my degraded hearing, I get similar results from Neutron that has much younger hearing.

Re: Neutron - Track Assistant 2016/10/09 16:21:03 (permalink)
Just wanted to drop a quick note on this one for the community. The OP and I have PMd a few times and verified that his download is correct (Neutron Advanced only download, same MD5 hash as mine), as well as seeing a video of what he is experiencing. His Track Assistant shows the audio of the track moving but none of the EQ nodes begin moving.

In my case (when it failed), the audio of the track never even became visible (the splash covered the entire UI in an opaque fashion).

He is following up with iZotope, so wanted to let folks know that my assumption may be bunk. The OP installed from the stand-alone installer, but the issue he is seeing is significant.

Just wanted to put this out there in case others are experiencing similar.

Another note: I played with both versions of Neutron to try to replicate the OP and found the other bug I saw mentioned somewhere... The VST2 version of Neutron comes up in surround mode (even though is only stereo). After running track assistant, the master outs jumps to +9dB and stay there, even with the transport not running. The LFE channels of Neutron (VST2 version) all show as "pegged" as soon as track assistant is enabled although there is no audio streaming through them (meters not moving).

Quick Edit: I also just submitted a bug report to iZotope directly and linked this post for them regarding the pegged audio meters with the VST2 version (full blown Neutron, not just the stand-alone EQ module).

Another edit to the above: The issue with the VST2 version may very well have a SONAR component to it, as the VST2 version comes up in Adobe Audition 4.0 without surround enabled on a stereo track, although Audition is also very much surround capable. Another clarification with this.... I can only test the 32-bit VST2 version in Audition, so the issue may lie with the 64-bit VST2 version, but am unable to verify.

Update:

After 1 week with frustration I was about to give up to get it too work. The only thing the last few days that gave me hope is that the nods where active and moving when using the "learn" function & so I knew this was some kind of internal computer issue for my case. I see this problem on Izotope Facebook page by users and also other forums.

I think Neutron is awesome, but for me, the track assistant feature is the top feature and just needed it to work.

Right now I remembered I had some kind of issues with some software from Vengeance last year. I had 1 percent hope again so needed to give it a try. I am from Norway, so we use Ø, and since my name is Øivind, my user profile, and therefore also my user folder is named Øivind. Since the file that "track assistant" uses to work on the system: instrument_classifier_params.npz , is placed in the apps data/Izotope folder under that username, it did not understand the Ø. So what I did is to create another userfolder within the english vocabulary & pasted the Neutron folder over there at the same place & the magic did happen. It works!!!

This was my last idea. Now I can start talk to my friends again & live a normal life  & most of all make much more music!

Over & out.

Re: Neutron - Track Assistant 2016/10/13 16:36:59 (permalink)
It sounds like most have already resolved the issue with Track Assistant just spinning and spinning and not making its settings.  I've seen this occasionally, too, and I installed the Music Production Bundle 2 as an upgrade for Music Production Bundle (1), just letting it update everything -- basically the default installation.  What I found was that the endless spinning and not making settings with Track Assistant occurred only when I started Track Assistant with playback already going, perhaps having also dragged Neutron (VST3 version by this point) to a track while playback was going.  Whenever I stopped playback, pressed the Track Assistant button, then started playback, the endless spinning did not occur.

Have you tried reinstalling Neutron.

I had trouble installing Neutron.  I tried to install to paths that had "Cakewalk" in the path, but the installer puked on that.  I was eventually able to force it to install in more generic vstplugins folders.  But as I was doing that, the assistant first worked and later did not work.

At one point, I got a message about "bigfoot" missing, which I think is the network software used for the various Neutron instances to communicate.  I would have thought that related to the masking monitor, not the track assistant.  I was also having the various issues related to VST2 being used by mistake.

I cleared the old Neutron install, rebooted, and then did a fresh install of Neutron.  I then disabled the VST2 versions within SONAR and everything worked perfectly after that.
