New Acoustic Track - "Rainy Sunday" - your feedback welcome
The guitar recording was a bit noisy but I'm interested in your thoughts on the mix. For the first time I used the Prochannel tape module while mixing. Also A-type console emulation. Most of the EQ compression is taken care of by the Waves Maserati plug-ins. Also first time I have used them. Maybe it's cheating but it does seem pretty quick to get a good sound. https://soundcloud.com/jamessolstice/rainy-sunday

I enjoyed it! Liked the sound of the guitar and the vocal. As you mentioned it was a little noisy but it didn't detract from the performance IMHO! Nice song too!

Good song jamie! I think the vocals sound very nice. You guitar accompaniment doesn't sound like a balanced EQ. I hear a dip in the mids which brings out the fret rub in the mix and a overall muddy sound. It's one of those things where the more you do it the better and easier it gets and sounds. Don't use EQ or Compression etc. unless you have a purpose and reason for using it in mind. Go for natural in the basic recording of the guitar. Less is more in this type of song IMHO. You playing is great. Picking your fingers straight up off the strings and going to the next chord also helps with the fret rub sound. It's a bit harder to play that way but worth the time you spend on that skill. Having fun is the key!!! I hope I've helped in some way. Good luck and keep playing!!

Oh, and I also like the mix/recording....I actually like the fairly pronounced fret noise; makes it somehow more intimate.

Great song and voice. Reminds me of Nick Drake/Paul Simon.

Thanks for the kind feedback! I'm tweaking a few things and should have a slightly improved mix up soon. Fret noise...can't really get rid of it I'm afraid. Maybe if my technique were a bit better! As a guitarist I'm happy to leave it in rather than try to mix it out. This song is played in the tuning of CFCFCF.

I have always enjoyed quirky tuning thanks for sharing, and the fret noise is cool.

Very nice. Intimate and well done. I like when the second guitar comes in about half way through, adds just enough of a change. Although the squeaks are still there, I think the guitar in the new mix is better balanced.

I think its a very nice song. I think it would be better if you double the guitars and tripple the voice and supercompress one track - it will fall out very well and give a better ground-stand. And add some strings from the middle of the song towards the end. Suddenly you have a hit;-)

I like the simplicity and clean performances. The string noise is a bit much sometimes but that gives it a live sound. Not a lot to say except I like it and you have a nice tune.

Hello Jamie, OK , I just gave your tune a listen and I think you can do a lot better than this mix . the singer sounds real good why not fatten up your guitar tracks and make them more lush and spread out + 1000 on editing the string noises, the string squeaks are not adding anything constructive to your song Kenny
