New Audio Interface Help

I am thinking of being in the market for a new audio interface, and possibly selling the 1616m. I'd like to look into getting an interface with at least 4 mic pres (8 would be fine as well) and that has solid driver support. I know the Roland products rate well here, and was going to look into the Quad Capture but unfortunately doesn't have enough inputs. The Octa capture is ideal but runs $700. Too bad there isn't an in-between product like a Hex (6) capture.

The only thing about the 1616m I like was that it has the turntable preamp and input, since if I decided to sell it I would have to use an external phono stage before inputting it to the interface.

What are some good interfaces that may be worth looking into, and has fairly low latency? I know about the FW and needing the TI chipset but since I may use a laptop on occasion I think I may look into getting an USB interface. I can do up to $500, else I could go up to $700. Selling the 1616m would give me a head start on saving up for a better interface.

http://www.zzounds.com/item--TASUS1641 -----------------------------------I have the Tascam us1641, works perfectly, good pre amps, good monitoring system, made out of steel! They have discontinued it and the upgrade is the us1800 which I see has now come down in price. Hard to find this many inputs at this price point. Just make sure you run it on W7 64 bit. The XP drivers were terrible.( for the us1641)

I had a Tascam US-2000.  It worked OK but the audio out (for headphones and studio monitors) was noisy so I sent it back.  May have just been that one unit?

I bought a Roland Octa-Capture and it works great and in a way glad the Tascam didn't work out, even with the higher price of the Octa-Capture.

Well mines dead quiet,The headphone output is nice and hot too. I was not really expecting it to work as well as it does cause my favorite saying is "You get what you pay for. But they did hit the market for $800 originally. I was only shopping for a 4 channel interface and came across the Tascam us1641 for $299 which was about what the 4 channel interfaces were going for. So I said ,, why not. So I have 16 for the price of 4. And I've always had good luck with Tascam in the past. I had no problems recording 12 tracks of audio into my laptop. It got brutalized with re takes and false starts. Where I had the issues was with my desktop trying to run VST's. But this was with a gutless windows XP 32 bit computer 2 Gigs of RAM etc. So far with a much better computer and W7 64 bit 4 GIGs of RAM, SATA 7200 drives. All has been without issue for a long time now. I did have an issue with MIDI not working but fixed it with driver update.Anyhow like I said $ Per input, it's a very good deal.
