New Build for my Silverstone case

Gigabyte Z97X-SOC ATX LGA1150 Z97 DDR3 PCI-E16 PCI-E8 XFIRE/SLI SATA3 USB3 HDMI DVI Motherboard
$169.99

Patriot Viper 3 8GB 2X4GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 10-10-10-27 1.5V Dual Channel Memory Kit - Black Mamba
$89.99

Intel Core i5 I5-4460 Haswell 3.2GHZ Processor LGA1150 6MB Cache Retail
$199.99

So I ordered these parts today as they were on sale. I sort am going for a lower end build here as I just can't afford much more than this. Anybody see any glaring errors in these parts working together? I know I should have asked before ordering but the sale ends soon, and I have 24 hours to cancel.

Motherboard vendors list compatible memory for a specific board (I had a Gigabyte board and it had compatible memory listed for it).  Did you verify that the memory you want is listed as compatible?  (memory not listed can be compatible but using certified compatible is safer).

    1. Support for DDR3 3300(O.C.) / 3200(O.C.) / 3100(O.C.) / 3000(O.C.) / 2933(O.C.) / 2800(O.C.) / 2666(O.C.) / 2600(O.C.) / 2500(O.C.) / 2400(O.C.) / 2200(O.C.) / 2133(O.C.) / 2000(O.C.) / 1866(O.C.) / 1800(O.C.) / 1600 / 1333 MHz memory modules
    Patriot Viper 3 8GB 2X4GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 10-10-10-27 1.5V Dual Channel Memory Kit
    Memory Speed1600 MHz

So will 1600 work is the question? They do have 1333Mz in stock but that seems like a down grade or something.

It seems like that is quite pricey for the memory - 8 GB of memory should run less than $100.

Here is a link for what looks like the same (or at least similar) memory:

    http://www.microcenter.com/product/433021/Patriot_Viper_Xtreme_8GB_(2_x_4GB)_240-Pin_DDR3_SDRAM_DDR3_2400MHz_(PC3_12800)_Desktop_Memory

The price you posted looks like how much I see the 16 GB going for.

Also, the price you post for the CPU seems quite low for an i5.

    Good luck with it all,

Sorry Bob, I see the post looks different when I open it on IE and Chrome, I posted on Firefox,, This forum still needs work, I just edited it so it looks right now on IE  and you'll see the prices are what you are thinking they should be.
The only question I still have is that if 1600Mz RAM will work when the specs call for 1333Mz??. Seems 1600 is standard for most systems and one would think it would be better?

Well, the way you list the memory speeds above seems to indicate that either 1333 or 1600 would work without having to overclock.

The edits sure helped - thanks.

Oh!  thanks for that because you made me read that again and now I see the 1600 listed,, I have no clue about what all the numbers mean anymore as I have not built much since the days of SD RAm..  My son is usually the one building for me.. So this is sort of a brave undertaking for me. Anything I do will be better than the P4 or whatever a Pentium D is> I'm using now. 4 cores has gotta be better than 2...
