The strategy with Cakewalk (and everyone else, really) has always been (1) release as standalone product, (2) milk everyone who's willing to pay for it, (3) gradually reduce price trying to get the money of everyone who hasn't paid yet, and finally (4) bundle it with something else to increase the value of another product. This is a simple price discrimination strategy that every vendor does.
I don't think that holds up. The ProChannel modules that have been sold stand-alone still haven't been made part of the main product, a couple of years in. Even as someone who shelled out for some of them, I think you could argue they should be. But that's not actually how it's been done. Not even something as simple as PC gate / expander has become free to date.

mudgel I don't remember ProChannel modules ever being freebies. There might be an introductory discount but we ain't getting this for free no way.
Exactly. Although the Tape Sim, Sat Knob, Breverb, REmatrix Solo and Console Emulation have been added to new versions of Sonar. I think this new plugin is more akin to the Softube Mix Bundle, or possibly the Ca2a, which are unlikely ever to be thrown in for free. I think that if Cakewalk were going to give us this one, they would have included it in the initial release, or have at least shown it of in the "Coming Soon" section. Still can't wait to see/hear it.

Paul P Looks great, for whatever that's worth. I could do without the scratches though. I take better care of my stuff .
The styling is lovely, but the scratches are tacky. May have to hunt down the image file if it's included with Sonar 2015

It's a really great plugin! Definitely fits right in with the newer Universal Audio plugins in my sessions (in terms of quality and vibe) and I think it really has a unique sound... both the EQ and Comp. Definitely try it if you're looking for some unique vintage flavor ITB. -Benjamin

It could happen. In fact, it would be a BRILLIANT move by Cakewalk and would instantly establish the value of a membership.

Will it run in X3 I wonder? I'm guessing that in the unlikely event it's 'free' as part of the Platinum/Professional model, it will be locked to the current and subsequent versions of SONAR, in exactly the same way as the bundled ReMatrix Solo module is. If they're going to charge for it, it would seem madness on their part to restrict its availability when there will be users of previous Pro-Channel enabled versions of SONAR who wouldn't be able to buy it. And locking such a paid-for feature to the newest version as an 'encouragement' for SONAR 'X' users to upgrade to Platinum or Professional doesn't really seem to be the way Cakewalk goes about things.

I also hope it's free to members. But I'm sure as @#$% not counting on it. AFAIK, none of the include modules were ever sold separately, and none of the for-sale modules have ever been added to the core product. Never say never, I know. Either way though, I for one don't see this as being at all "detrimental" if it's not part of the membership. We can't expect every new thing to be included... this just happens to be the first, and possibly not the last given the way things are really ramping up on the CW/Gibson front. Whatever, if it's a decent enough price I'd definitely consider it. And if it is free, we all owe Larry a hug.

Just because Cakewalk is selling a plugin does not mean the own the plugin. The good news is that a ProChannel version really cannot be used anywhere else but Sonar. So like some other things that have appeared at the store in a variety of modes for Windows and Mac, this one may turn up in a crippled ProChannel only version as a Sonar feature later in life. On the other hand, speculation is the mother of disappointment.

Boz Digital Labs did this plugin and with our help made it ProChannel compatible. It will be available separately as a purchase and will have a nice introductory price. Since this was not developed by Cakewalk, it's not going to be part of membership but still a very cool plugin.

Yes, it will include all the formats (VST, VST3, AU, AAX, RTAS) plus the EQ and Compressor will be available inside of SONAR.

Great news for existing owners of this great compressor!

Thank you RAZORWIT for bringing this to our attention... a couple of things.... 1) I don't think this will be free given that BOZ site is selling the bundle for $100 (perhaps discounted a bit maybe for ahem, members) and 2) In the BOZ ad, they say think LED ZEPPELIN drums. ADR 760 is the OEM unit on the desk of that was used when I think of LZ drums.. that is, a HELIOS TYPE 69 desk that was used in both Island's BASING street studios and the Island Mobile. I will D/L the demo and see how close it comes to the ADR that claim it emulates (I highly doubt that it hits it spot on).... I read the same hype for the HELIOS PYE Channel strip from WAVES that sounds nothing like the original Helios. And thanks again Razorwit for the info And have you already demo'ed and let me know how close it is to the original unit on the HELIOS desk? Tony Arnold now owns the HELIOS brand and used to be partners with Dick S before he died. He has released a new F760 COMP to go along with his HELIOS type 69 Pre and EQ but the COMP isn't series 500 and you need a special chassis to use the comp. Now time to D/L and DEMO this interesting COMP. JIM

If your expectation is that we just give away everything including third party products that OTHER people develop, then I think you are going to be unhappy. We have an excellent road map for SONAR and very exciting things coming but that doesn't mean everything we ever offer is going to be free. Please be a little realistic :)

Well Andrew, IMHO as a former X3 Producer owner, I'm not sure getting the Platinum membership has any greater value than getting the Professional membership. I know it's still early in the membership cycle but to be asked to buy something so soon doesn't leave a good taste in my mouth. To me, Pro Channel has evolved into a means for Cakewalk to generate more income for plug ins that I have covered already. Again, my opinion and hopefully you'll prove me wrong Cheers, jayson
