New Cakewalk - random dropout when recording

Using the new Cakewalk (which so far I like!)
But I have an intermittent problem where playback/recording stops for less than a second or so but then continues. I'm recording and then I hear like a skip in the sound but then it keeps going. It doesn't crash but during that small time frame there is a glitch in the recording. I think I might have heard it happening during playback only, at least once.

I suspected something going on in the background such as screen saver trying to kick in or something trying to access the Internet so I disabled a few things but it still happens randomly.
Anybody else experience this and if so were you able to find the issue causing it?
Thanks in advance.

Ok good tip...will disable Windows defender while recording and see if that does it.
    Thanks

For me it is always the internet and some background task happening. So I disable my adapter and carry on.
One of my DAW's is always off line.

I just did a lot of recording over a period of 1.5 hours with no dropouts. Beforehand I disabled Windows Defender and MS OneDrive.
Good idea on disabling the network. I'll do that too just to make sure.
    Thanks

While I can't say what's causing your intermittent dropouts, I can confidently say that it is not random.

Some other process is periodically hogging system resources. Find out what that process is and kill it before you start recording. LatencyMon and Task Manager are good places to start gathering clues.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
