New Composition (and my first song ever posted to the forum): Chasing The Light
Hi folks, Been using Sonar for many years -- and enjoying the benefits of this great Sonar community -- but haven't really put my stuff out there before...so here goes... This is a short bit of hybrid-orchestral scoring, intended for a movie/game trailer. I'd love to get some opinions and feedback, if anyone is so inclined: https://soundcloud.com/amicusaudio/chasing-the-light-v2 There was a total of 31 separate tracks for this one, and I lost count of how many plugins (although Native Instruments Replika - which I find really useful - was a big player, and features on at least 6 of those tracks). Libraries/Synths used: Camel Audio's Alchemy Kontakt Ultimate (Damage, Evolve, Evolve II, Vienna Ensemble Strings, Vocalize, Kinetic, Action Strikes, Rise and Hit) Dark Skies Garritan Instant Orchestra Cinesamples Tina Guo Legato Cello This one didn't take long to get the basic tracks down, but it took me a couple days to get the effects and mix to a point where I was ready to post it. I think it will need more work, though. Thanks for listening. Rob

It does sound like it would work as you intended, mix seems balanced here.

As already mentioned - complete trailer material. I liked the mix of synthetic and acoustic/orchestral. Works really well.

Thanks, Ultrabra, I appreciate the suggestion. Yeah, I have been on that forum a bit, although I haven't really participated much. Not sure if its the place for me. One composer (name of Andrajas) posted some tracks to the composition forum yesterday, in a style very similar to mine, and he sort of got roughed up by a couple of the posters -- and not in a constructive way, I thought. The guys tracks were good -- better than mine (IMHO) -- and one of the first comments posted to the thread opened with: "What do I think about the music? I think it's crap." I'm a professional musician, but a hobbyist composer and I do my recordings for fun rather than profit (although I've sold a few, and done some contract work). VI Control doesn't seem all that friendly a place, and while that is fine if you're seriously honing your skills in order take a run at a professional career, I'm just here to have a good time, and make a bit of music. Update: the VI Control post cited above has been removed and shunted to a new thread elsewhere in the forum, along with a few other comments that were made, just in case anyone goes looking for it. The original post remains in the composition forum, along with a few of the nicer replies.
