New Computer / Interface

Hello,

At long last, I am able to pull off getting a new computer.  It will contain an Intel 4th generation i7 4570 processor and 16 GB of ram running Win 7 Pro 64 bit.  I know this will run MC6 well, but my concern is my interface. I have a Lexicon Lambda digital interface.  On my previous computer (Dell with Pentium Dual-Core 2.6 ghz, 4 GB ram, Win 7 Premium 64 bit), I would blue-screen on occasion, and I know from the process of elimination, the Lexicon Lambda was to blame.  Do I have any reason to be concerned it will continue to happen on the new computer?  Any thoughts as to why it happens at all?  I was using the latest drivers at Lexicon's website.

Thanks,

Patrick

If you know the Lambda is to blame, then why have you not replaced it with a better interface that will not cause crashes and glitches in the computer?  Most crashes are related in some way to the drivers used by a particular program or app.

A decent interface on the old computer would have made a big difference. I ran my Saffire Focusrite on a duo core Dell with Vista as the OS. For the most part, considering it was an off the shelf machine, it ran well.

On my custom build it runs flawlessly 99.99% of the time. Rare thing to get a crash. It's usually a self inflicted crash when it does crash.

Why it happens? I've heard for many years that the Lambda interfaces use some sort of codec as a driver and are problematic as a result. They don't,  correct me if I'm wrong, use true ASIO. I browsed the owners manual PDF looking for driver info and did not see any mention of the specific drivers other than to "load the USB drivers" provided.... maybe I missed where it said they do use ASIO.

So, yeah, pick up a Presonus, M-Audio, Focusrite, or Roland interface and sell the Lambda on Ebay.

If I'm not mistaken, the Lexicon units are USB1.
I've only dealt with one Lambda, and at its best, it was capable of of almost tolerable latency.
I have to second Guitarhacker. Ditch the Lambda, and get a more current unit from Focusrite, M-Audio, Roland, Akai, etc.

good advise from both of you. I collaborate with a friend about 800 miles away, and we both have the same device. He has no issues. I asked him to send me his drivers. It may be a case of needing the right drivers, not necessarily the most current ones.

None-the-less, I will look into a new controller.

    Thanks,

Is his computer the exact same one as yours?   You can certainly try an older driver.... best of luck on that.

His computer [Win 7 64 Bit Pro] is newer than the one I was having trouble with [Win 7 64 Bit Premium].  I'm currently setting up a new computer which I will try the Lambda device on with the same drivers he has.  With this new computer, we will both be running Win 7 64 Bit Pro.  I'll keep you posted.

Just an update, while I didn't yet install MC6 on my new computer, the Lexicon Lambda device installed without a hitch.  I obtained a copy of the original installation disk which came with my friends LL.  While my device is 5 years old and his is 2 years old, his drivers are obviously more stable than mine, and more stable than the current drivers posted on the Lexicon website.
