New Control Surface - Alesis Master Control

This is a revision unit back from the Dead of the Alesis Master Control that left the scene years ago.

I Just received these photos to see additional frontal shots of the surface, and I like what I see so far. The features state HUI mode, but I think they have confused it with Mackie Mode, at least I hope thye have confused it with Mackie Mode.

I may make this my Control surface of choice if things pan out.. The price tag for this unit is $799.99

Alesis MasterControl Features:

  • Eight built-in analog inputs - two XLR mic preamp inputs with phantom power and channel inserts, six TRS 1/4" line inputs

  • 192kHz analog recording / playback capability

  • Six analog outputs - configurable as discrete, 5.1 surround, or stereo X 3, with dedicated speaker switching

  • Built-in talk-back microphone and control-surface based cue mix setup

  • Preview button shows knob, button, and fader parameters before sending them out to DAW

  • Two banks of eight fully-assignable buttons provide 16 different functions per preset (setting markers and loop points, setting automation modes, cut/copy/paste)

  • 2 x 16 character LCD provides instant controller feedback and enables customization of knob and button functions

  • Nine 100mm motorized faders and eight 360-degree virtual assignable knobs (three banks each) provides instant access to 28 different parameters on every DAW channel

  • Expandable audio inputs for up to 26 simultaneous inputs

  • S/PDIF and dual S/MUX ADAT Lightpipe inputs provide 18 additional recording inputs

  • Fully-editable presets allow for instantaneous, dedicated control over DAWs (HUI-compatible) and external MIDI devices

  • Removable, customizable templates provide total visual overview of preset operation

  • Bundled with Cubase LE software

  • Compatible with most Digital Audio Workstation software

Damn it, i thought i was done shopping. The madness never ends with new gear, and this looks pretty cool. i like the fact its an interface also. The only downside is that its an Alesis. Maybee they improved there support. maybee

    CJ,

I have an Alesis Analog Mixer and I have called Suppor for it when I was having trouble with it earlier, but it was user error. The support was great and the guy gave me all kinds of options during the time I called him. He also wnet as far as e-mailing me the written instructions on work arounds because the mixer was small and didn't have the features I needed to control headphone and control room outs seperately. I was a newbie with th mixer back then.

The unit is nicely priced, is sizable for a work station desk, and look rather nice. I hope I can hold out an not spend my reserve money befor I get this. I dying to buy some new gear but I don't know what to get, that I really need and coud make use of in my humble studio.

    Peace

Just be careful with the unit because I believe it has the DICE II chipset for firewire. People with AMD dual-core procesoor are having problems with the unit going crazy.
Audio going into quick-time speed and static coming out of unit with Sonar. Project 5 works well but it is single core. Only way I have gotten Alesis IO26 to work with Sonar 6 on a AMD 4600 X2 was going into the task manager and having Sonar locked down to one CPU core. The sound of the unit is great when its working. Cakewalk and Alesis are now looking into the matter, but I think they have to wait for the DICE II maker (TC something) to come up with updated drivers.
So if you're using Intel Core 2 Duo you should be okay, but I'd still would not be the first on the block to own one of these after my on going saga with the IO 26.

I'm assuming it has zero-latency monitoring, like my MOTU 828 MkII has? I can't find anything on the web that confirms this... I'd love to sell the MOTU and get the Alesis, trusting that it will perform just as well...

I wanted to buy the OI26 but got side tracked with all the error reports I heard about it. I ended up with a tried and true FA-66 to tide me over until the ultimate interface/ controller comes out.... and then wait 3 years later till I can afford a used one.
