New DAW - i7 920 or Q9550 ???
Hi there
I'm just about to get a new DAW built and was thinking of going with an i7 920 Processor with
this Gigabye motherboard. My reason for this as oppposed to going down the Core Quad 9550 route which I had originally planned to, is due to:
1. The price difference being around £150 more than a Q9550 based machine.
2. The mobo will allow me to use 6GB of DDR3 RAM at 1600Mhz (Max capacity 24GB) - eventually when using a 64 bit OS.
3. The mobo will allow me to have 4 PCIe slots (x1, x4 and 2x8) in addition to the x16 slot the graphics card will use, this being handy due to my MultifaceII and 2 UAD2 cards requiring PCIe slots. This setup will leave me with one PCIe slot to use later if need be.
4. Initially having dual boot XP 32 and Vista 64 will give me the capacity to use a 64 bit OS for recording with any great purpose later on when the need arises.
5. Basically, it's a little more future proof than the Q9550 machine would be.
Is my above reasoning fairly sound? I don't do majorly big projects just now but this may change as will my hankering towards using more VSTis as I'm beginning to get more interested in this sort of thing.
Are there any pitfalls to me going for the above type of machine?
