Pro Q-2 was the last EQ I'll ever buy but thus one looks pretty good too.  :-)

Yeah, I don't buy EQ's anymore. Unless they're good. Or on sale. Or it's a month with an r.

    It's Bass, not Bass.

I downloaded the demo and tried it. It's a good EQ.
    It provides +/- 30 dB boost/cut.
I was able to sweep the frequency back and forth as fast as I could with the mouse and it kept up with me with no zipper noise or other artifacts and no drop-outs.
The RTA is similar to Span with two viewable curves. I set one to RT peak and the other to Average.

To test processor usage, I put 24 Prime EQ on a subgroup, 24 Pro-Q2 on another subgroup, and 24 Sonitus EQ on another subgroup. All EQs were set to use 6 peaking type EQs. I started with the master effects bypassed on all three subs. I started the transport and noted the processor usage in Windows Task Manager/Performance.

    All EQ bypassed: 10%
All 24 Pro-Q2 on,   all others off: 12%
All 24 Sonitus on,   all others off: 12%
All 24 Prime EQ on, all others off: 14%

I don't need any more EQ's.  Not ANY.  No!!  Well, maybe one more.  Maybe this one.  Actually, I could use it, but then I'm stopping . . . .

Thanks for the review, Mike. Looks like it might be an inexpensive alternative to Pro-Q2, except that I didn't see anything about M/S processing.

I probably would have grabbed this 8 weeks ago.  But since I got Fabfilter's Pro Q2 (and C) during BF sales, I'm all set in the EQ dept.  In general, the timing's just not great... Releasing it right after BF was probably not the best idea.

Agree, no M/S processing. Since it is only version 1.0, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets added in a future update.
Agree, a  (low cost) alternate for the Pro-Q, sans pro-Q extra features such as "Spectrum Grab" which I find very useful.

I like to think of it as an "upgrade" from the Sonitus EQ. For those that don't use the ProChannel EQ, the Prime EQ would make a good upgrade giving you more/better band control and spectrum analyzer.

Well, you could easily pick up Voxengo's free MSED plug-in and put it before and after the EQ to get an MS capability.  If you're a SONAR user, you could just as easily use Channel Tools instead.  Not that integrated MS wouldn't be nice, or course.

When I read the Primary Users Guide for all the plug-ins, it said that M/S processing and oversampling were standard voxengo features. Is this not correct?

This particular plugin does not appear to offer such features, although they can be emulated with multiple instances and other plugins, e.g. using MSED in conjunction.

Pro-Q, however, goes beyond just M/S encoding at the front end and decoding at the output. Each filter can be independently designated as stereo, left, right, mid or side, and you can mix 'n match them as needed. So, for example, in a single instance you can apply both a high shelf that boosts the sides plus a complementary second shelf that lowers the mid channel.

But in making comparisons to our other favorite EQs, we should bear in mind that Pro-Q2 is also 3x the price of PrimeEQ.

Oversampling doesn't apply to equalizers. Vendors who add it to EQs are just pandering to mis-informed consumers.
