Nice - Tascam puts out a whole range of products, but even their higher end stuff is reasonably priced - something that can't be said for a lot of manufacturers.

I was very happy with my TASCAM FW-1884 as an interface and control surface.

Then I added my RME UFX and the recording chain was improved considerably.

Now the only downside is the unit is no longer supported so I believe I'm stuck on WIN 7 (which ain't a bad thing, IMO) with this as my control surface unless the drivers"happen" to work on Win 8.

OT there's a new RME update-
Windows PnP driver for Fireface UFX, UCX, UC and Babyface, version 1.042.

I can say I've been incredibly happy with my Forte.

I always did like Tascam products.  They were the orginal Home Studio go to thing a ma bob...for me..LOL

I had a ton of their stuff...and it never disappointed...do have to say that...

I think he's referring to the Tascam FW1884 unit, which was discontinued in 2010.
And therefore does not have any official drivers for Win8

$600 seems to be the new entry fee for high quality interfaces - Forte, Audient, Babyface, Avid.  I guess the generation that bought $200 interfaces is now ready to step up - or the manufacturers hope so.  I'm wondering how much better they can be?  The mid-line stuff that is coming out like preamps put a premium on transformers as well as better components - but transformers are the expensive bits.  Still, I suppose the $600 is better, even if they don't include transformers like a Burl, etc.

    I'm glad I'm happy w/ my TC, otherwise I'd be tempted ...

Another OT, but FYI: I'm using FW1884 with great stability on Win 8.1. And the X3 trial.
It has been so stable and not missed a single note the last 11 days (it have been powered on for 11 days...) so I'm actually buying X3 now as soon as I find a good deal :)

I wonder if this thing is Made In Japan at a genuine Tascam factory or if it is Made In Elsewhere at a contract factory? The genuine factory stuff always seems to be worth a premium price.
