Hmm, a bit underwhelming really.

As was last month's update for that matter.

No doubt things will pick up again when it's time to shell out for another twelve months

I'll definitely be installing the update and see how useful it actually might be. I'm very happy to see these monthly bug fixes.......much better than the previous versions where we'd only get 2 or 3 updates (if that) for the whole year.

Even if the monthly features might be somewhat meh, I'm pleased to have them at my disposal.......most of all, the current version of Sonar has been the most stable one (for me) since the Sonar 3 days.

Sorry you're feeling unloved. I've been using SONAR for less than 6 months. I've gotten more from the 4 monthly updates I've received than I got in 18 months on Studio One (2 minor point releases; woop de frickin do).

If the new Start Page is done, why shouldn't I get it now, instead of waiting for SPlat 2.0? I absolutely LOVE the way Cakewalk have made good on the promise of their subscription system. I've had others, like Cyberlink. Them, I hate. No updates. Just pop-up hints to Upgrade. To what? I already had their top-of-the-line suite.

The Bakers, on the other hand, have fed us bug fixes, new content and new features. Take what the last four updates have added, multiply that by 3, and ask yourself if ANY other of your software providers have given you that much over the same 12 month period. Not one of mine has.

Two big thumbs up to Cakewalk!

The CCC doesn't show the Hopkington Upgrade. It shows version 1.0 even though I installed 1.1 This is frustrating!

I uninstalled the CCC and reinstalled. Then I logged out then in. Then from settings I ran update. I started the CCC still showing version 1.0. This time the platinum button was yellow. It gave me the Hopkinton Upgrade as far as I can tell. I have the new start up screen. The CCC still shows version 1.0 and in my store account the last thing registered was drum replacement. No sign of the Hopkinton Upgrade in my store account.

OK the 1.0 is from my list at the top of the CCC. It's not the version of CCC I have but of the Modern Drum Replacement upgrade. I checked out the new start up screen and love it! Don't laugh and you know who you are!!

Re: New Hopkinton Update for Sonar!! 2015/08/27 11:11:03 (permalink)
In a reply to a poster's comment upstairs: "This is the most underwhelming release yet. I guess devs were on vacation."

Andrew Rossa [Cakewalk] The Start Screen was a pretty big feature that required testing and dev time. I think long term, it's going to be a huge improvement for both new customers and existing customers. As mentioned, we have some other cool features coming up that also require a bit of attention. Again, the point is to release features and fixes when they are tested and ready, not to play a numbers game that can result in issues for some customers.

Noel Borthwick [Cakewalk]
Also to add to whats said. The development process is not as black and white or linear as many people assume. We don't just work on fixes or work on new features. Often they intersect. For example for the last couple of months I worked on recording related work while developing the infrastructure for synth recording and patch points. This process led to a major revamp (refactor in devspeak) of the recording code. That is some of the oldest and most complex code in the app. In the process I made numerous improvements to that code that should ultimately lead to better stability and *much* better maintainability. A lot of that is difficult to document as bug fixes since it would be very time consuming to detect which specific scenario was broken before. We do log cases for regression testing when its obvious. The same thing happened when I worked on Mix recall - there were scores of small fixes and even crashes that were addressed through that effort.   All in all this is completely normal in the development process. You folks are looking at a small window of a month which is not a big enough sample size to accurately represent whats going on. i.e. some months will look smaller and others may look huge since we are releasing features only after testing. Next month will have a ton of updates coming online.

Today's bugs are tomorrow's features.

I still remember doing a contract for Intel with a friend of mine.  We went onto one of their "farms" for a rare physical meeting and one of their programmers hooked up his laptop to the projector.  The first thing that came up was his Outlook and, before he changed the screen, we saw that he had between five and six hours of meetings scheduled every day - and he's a programmer?  We used to get a lot of compliments from the Intel guys about the amount of work we were able to get done.  Well, duh, we simply stayed out of meetings and did what developers are supposed to do!

I didn't really like it... I prefer the File drop down because it has sixteen of the last projects opened whereas I think the Smart Screen only had half a dozen or so. A small thing I know... I just thought I'd rather stick to my old way of opening older projects and starting a new project... My needs are simples

Mine won't upgrade to hopkinton just keeps loading Gloucester and also says it's not completed...click here to finish...which I do but nothing changes. Do I need to roll back or uninstall? I suspect it has something to do with Gobbler/Slate thingy that screwed me and several others up.

Talking about start screens, just been checking out Studio One 3, and well . . . doesn't it's start screen make Sonars look/feel/and act like a second class citizen in a third world country with no sight, hearing or speech, and a severely handicapped cognitive process ?

The whole package seems to be very slick indeed, fairly easy to get up and running with it as well, damn slick.

I often wonder what it is that makes DAW users so parochial and protective of their chosen software.

I frequent a few Photography/Image Editing forums, and even those hosted by the software producers themselves don't seem to demonstrate the insularity often found in DAW forums and discussion boards.

If anything, I've found the opposite to be true, in as much as most customers of photography and image editing based software providers' seem more than happy to use a range of products from various companies. Providing the end product, be it a stunning photograph or a lucrative piece of graphic design, is the best it can be, then each piece of software that helped enable seems valued.

Mind you, I wonder if this is in some way influenced by Adobe's domination in the field of image manipulation. I've tried out a fair few Photoshop/Lightroom-type software products, I've even purchased a couple, but for me anyway, my Adobe products just do everything so well it would be hard to imagine being without them.

If anything, Adobe are quite shrewd in some respects. In a lot of cases, instead of designing a particular product to compete with another developer's program, they deliberately adapt Lightroom, and Photoshop particularly to act as either a host for their "rivals'" products (as plug-ins) or a port whereby images can be easily be exported and imported from other software (I suppose the corollary with audio software would be the use of VST plugins and Rewire?).

As I say, Adobe's pre-eminence in its field isn't necessarily built on the superiority of its applications, but more so on its willingness to adapt and integrate with other products. It certainly has little competition in this particular way of working though, so Photoshop versus Corel versus OnOne versus Topaz type arguments are less likely to crop up.
