New Instrument from NI--hear it!
Just discovered this new instrument from NI, this morning, a prepared piano with a distinctive tone, and the demos are unlike many I've heard on this site before. I'm intrigued, this one seems different to me. Check it out here: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/keys/una-corda/ I don't know about anyone else, but I started drooling while listening to the demos. I want this.

It does sound good. NI didn't get any money from me this Black Friday b/c, for the first time in years, they had nothing I was interested in. This has my interest for next Black Friday. ;)

My first thought was... yay, another piano. But those demos are really nice. I love the sound when they're using felt. Hopefully this will be a sale item at some point.

It's always nice to hear NI audio demos that aren't cheesy dubstep. That does sound very nice. Although the kind of thing that could drown a mix in mud if you're not careful.

Just listened to the demo. Been awhile since a really unusual piano has come along. Only one string per key (and only 64 keys), no sound board or case, so it's got a sound that's sometimes more reminiscent of a guitar or a toy piano than a conventional piano. Keep in mind as you listen to the demos that they are all made with multiple instances (up to 8) of the instrument, making it fatter than it really is. Two of the sample layers are "prepared", meaning they stuck things like leather and silk between the hammers and strings. You also get more options than a typical piano library, such as a reverse effect, flageolet (a clarinet-like woodwind instrument), compression and transient control. An interesting curiosity, for sure. Would I spend $149 on it? Not likely.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Hopefully it'll make it into the next Komplete and I'll pick it up when Komplete upgrades go on sale. The UI looks like a new direction for NI. Almost Valhalla-like dials.

Mmmm nice. Shades of Jonathan Edwards playing in one of my favourite bands of the moment, Luna Rossa.

The 64-key piano was the original. The creator built an 88-key version just for NI for this release. For a buck and a half, I'll wait, even though I really like the sound of it. Besides, I suspect it will be part of Komplete 11 or 12 Ultimate. I'll sit on K9U until it becomes part of the upgrade package I'm gonna have to pay for anyway.
