New Instrumental - "Morning Came Too Soon" Final Mix

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10904053

Here is my newest song- "Morning Came Too Soon".  Comments welcome.

All the lead in the first half of song is with the '62 strat and the Marshall MKII 100 watt amp.  The lead in the second half of the song is with the Ibanez JS100 and the Marshall JCM900 50 watt amp.

Edit:  Just updated file with new mix.  Tweaked some levels and pulled compression down on drums.

Nice one Mark, that opening riffy section reminded me of 'Stand Up' era Tull, I like the open feel there. As usual, sweet playing all through, cool 'space-rock' tone on the lead. Bass is well defined on this one, good stuff.

Yes, morning came too soon, ah, oops, it is afternoon already though!

Lots of moving around on the guitar and the mix seems to be alright, but I heard something at 1:32 in the song that sounded either rough or seem to get off, breaking out of one part into another part there. That's about all of that though, nothing else in the song.

It does have a bit a Tull vibe, with some Vai or Satch overtones.  Some nice mixtures of tone.  I love some of those scales.  No moss grows under your fingers that's for sure.

    Fun ride.

Sublime guitar playing, Mark.  Nice melodic feel you have, especially when you go from the sweet tones to the shredding.

    Mix wise:
The drums sound like they are pumping @:50 when the crashes come in.

Could use a very subtle pad to keep things combined, like a real low synth or organ.

Might want to think about carving just a wee more space out for the lead against the guitar chords.

Thanks James.  I always appreciate your input.

You're right about the drums.  I have too much compression on them.  Much more noticeable in the mp3.  I had considered using a pad but ruled it out just to keep things a bit raw-er.  Will look at the lead/rhythm eq's.

Hi Frank, thanks for listening.  The strat is all original except for body paint and frets.  But I don't think I'd ever want to sell it.

I hear a little Allman Brothers from 1:32 to 1:46 ( a little like Jessica)   Interesting combinations of style, classic 70's to modern shred.  Cool song, like the playing a lot.

Hey Mark, good to have you back and tearing off some searing lead runs over a tasty running riff.  Great stuff, and a noticable departure from your usual playing style (at least so far as I've heard).  If you were trying for a different sound, you succeeded, and it was a cool surprise.

I could maybe hear a bit of what James was saying though I didn't note the time.  It just felt like there were points where the mix was being dominated by the crashes.  But, it still sounded great.

Thanks, I never really thought about my style, but I guess it is kind of a classic 70's-modern shred fusion.

    Mark,

Very nice. Guitars and bass were great.

I only wished the drums were a bit "thicker". The snare popped a bit too much for this feel (IMO).
